No front license plate in VA, is that ok?
hey guys, i just got my car shipped to me from Chicago, however, it's not drilled for front license plate (and i actually would prefer to keep it that way if possible).
i know it's required to have front license plate in VA, so what do you guys do about it? i'm sure there are ways around it other than drilling the bumper? want to get some ideas on this. thanks |

Front plate is legally required. A lot of DC metro folks would rather drill their own hand than their front bumper though , potentially risking habitual fix-it tickets from Virgina's (and also DC and MD's) finest. Another alternative to drilling while maintaing law compliance, is the front tow hook plate mount (slightly offset).

You can use double sided tape or the tow hook mounting kit.
Or you can pay the $87 fine every time you get caught for not having this.

double sided tape, how secure is that?
I don't think i have had front tags since 2000 on most of my cars. if u r car is dropped , tinted and you are chilling the cop will find reasons to get you. if you drive by and bother no body - you will be taking ur chances. also the cops in the area got put of traffic duty a lot more lately. i see them 2x 3x a day on my 3 mile ride.

Just use double sided tape...mine has been on for 6 months now and it's not going anywhere....and it has been tested at 150mph You drill it you are going to depreciate the value of the car some, i know i wouldn't buy a used car with holes drill in front bumper.

No need to drill holes in the front. I bought a set of L shaped brackets that mount via holes drilled from the bottom of the fender, so when you remove the brackets the holes are not visible.
I forget where I ordered them (online) so I'll post them later this week when I'm back home and can inspect them. |
