RF balancing
Parker Auto Care (in that area around Laperierre and Clyde) do RF balancing for $12.00/wheel plus an additional $20 charge IF they have to index the tire. As far as I know, they are the best price in town. I will be taking my BMW and Porsche wheels to them in the next few weeks. I have had them do great alignment work on my Porsche in the past.
Cheers, Ayan

A Steel rims question
With winter fast approaching, just wondering where I can buy steel rims to mount my winter tires that are cheap (not the cost of dealerships) in Ottawa.
Thank you |

BMW Steelies
As far as I know you can't -- you have to buy mags for your BMW (they don't make steelies in sizes that fit.) I bought mine at Tire Rack along with a set of Blizzaks. Just make sure NOT to order TPMS -- it isn't used on Canadian cars.

When they tinted the windows they scratched all along the back of the roof and parts of the trunk. If my car wasn't black I probably would not have seen them. They did buff them out for me without any hassle. Would I go back to them I don't know. From what I got of them they are like any Ziebart type place, maybe a step up. I would never get them to do a full detail on my car though. |

The TireShop in ottawa closed down, so instead of $80 for mounting and balancing all my tires, i'm looking at $200 for 1 hour of labour at the dealership. i'm pissed off.
does anybody recommend any place in Ottawa that is not outrageously priced to mount and balance my RUNFLAT tires? |

Mine is in at Otto's today to get the winters on -- they are charging me $80, and they gave me a 525xi as a loaner

Hi,
I picked up my jet black '06 325i (6spd) two weeks ago from Otto's. It's the first BMW that I have owned and I absolutely love it! I also had my windows tinted (Lumar) last week from Derand and they did a fantastic job! I had them put on 20% on the sides and 15% on the back. I will be keeping my style 156 rims for the winter and will be ordering either a set of 18's or 19's at some point over the winter months... As soon as I can make up my mind on which ones I want at a reasonable price. |

Congrats on the Bimmer, you won't regret it! Mine was the best (and biggest) impulse buy I have ever made
As for winter tires, I have had good luck with Deals4Wheels. They have like 3-4 locations but I usually deal with the Kanata one and have been satisfied everytime. This year I already had my winters mounted to my OEM rims so I just installed them myself. For the other car (the taxi) I am going to go and get my winters mounted to my OEM rims (tires only last one season on this car anyways) by my somewhat sketchy mechanic. He's cheap and lets you stand there and watch him like a hawk, but he is still not coming anywhere near my BMW nor am I ever referring any of you guys to him

Thanks Desi! I ordered Toyo Garrit KXs from Deals4wheels (east end) and will be getting them put on my 156s this week.
BTW, your VMR rims look great! Hopefully my setup will look just good! The only concern I have is that with the non-sport I will probably have to get some H&R springs or the Eibach Pro-Kit since their will be a large gap. I'll get the rims first then see how it looks... I spent a few hours waxing (Meguiar's) it on Sunday; it's so clean that I took my truck to work today because it was suppose to rain! I know, I know, I've only had it two weeks and with winter coming, I better get used to it being dirty! For anyone that has a clean but dusty car (especially Jet Black) and does not feel like re-washing it, try the California Duster from Canadian Tire, it's pretty amazing. I was a little skeptical buying it because it was $24.99 but the label said "As seen on TV", so I said it must be good! hahaha! |

Detailing the greater Ottawa area since / when somebody hires me!
What's up Ottawa! Desi, Magimac, Clairvoy, (mtlbimmer you too)
As a government employee i got mad time on my hands in the afternoon, on holidays, and all weekends. I've been thinking about what to do with my spare time. One of my lovely hobbies is cleaning my car, obsessively. It's a hobby that doesn't pay well. So I was thinking of getting paid for this hobby. If anybody in Ottawa ever needs a interior or exterior cleaning, holla at moi. I provide service in both official languages. I compared my price with other competitors and I'm dirt cheap, like Mexican field labor cheap, like Nike sweatshop cheap, like 80 year old crackwhore prostitute cheap; although i wont clean the cum out of the backseat of your car for any amount of money. Interior: $30 gets you: Interior Shampoo, Vacuum Interior, Clean & Shine Dash & Door Boards, Clean Windows Inside & Outside, Clean 1 Set of Floor Mats. Exterior: $30 gets you: Hand Wash, Clay Bar, Wax & Polish, Tire & Wheel Shine. Here are my tools for the job: dirtdevil handheld vaccum stoner's invisible glass zaino 10 leather conditioner - works on leatherette too aerospace 303 - for rubber scotchguard - for carpet simoniz - salt and stain remover raindance carnuba wax - lasts about a month bmw wheel cleaner gel mothers mag & aluminum polish - for rims and exhaust mothers instant detailer meguiar's quick detailer meguiar's claybar meguiar's gold class car shampoo a crapload of microfibre towels and shop towels Who wants to be my first customer? ps: i dont have a shop so we're going to Henry's car wash hahaha. |

NoKids, I might take you up on that in the not-so-distant future! I am great with exterior but I loathe cleaning the interior of my car. Exterior work I love doing but interior just feels so... cumbersome.

Get 19s, 18s are too small and 20s are too big......19s are perfect IMO. Which wheel you have in mind? Lip or No Lip? .....Look at alot of pics before you order them btw Order you wheels during winter......they are cheaper

Thanks MTL_Bimmer. I would really like to have a lip or at least the center of the rim going inwards to give the wheel some depth when you look at it from an angle. I have gone through so many pictures of e90s that I can't really make up my mind. One minute I would like style 162s, the next minute I want ASA ar1s, the next Corse z2s... They all look so good! The staggered setup looks amazing with a lip but my concern is that I drive about 30k a year so I don't know if I could get at least two summers with a staggered setup. If I go with the style 162 replicas which are 18x8 (front and rear) I would end up putting Rogue Engineering spacers on the back to push the wheels out a touch. I plan on buying my wheels in February but like I said, it's a tough decision, although, I much prefer aftermarket, with lip and staggered.
