Getting the smoke smell out of the vents from previous owner?
The guy that I bought my 07’ 335i from last year was a smoker…….and I’ve pretty much got all of the smoke smell out of the interior. Just opening up the door and sitting in the car, you could never know that anyone has smoked in it.
BUT……even after changing the cabin air filter, any time you turn on the heating/cooling vents….it really stinks up the inside of the car with a nasty, musty, smoke smell. Any way to get rid of that smell in the ducts? Any kind of spray I can spray run through the fan side in order to get rid of that smell?

I agree it is the worst thing in the world. Really the only way is to get your car Ozone treated/fumed; It works pretty damn well.
You of course have to still treat every surface with cleaner to get that layer of film off everything still but i'm sure you've gone through most of that. |

Haven't used one but Meguiars and I believe someone else make those car bomb things that you open and leave the A/C on full blast recirculation. That may help you get some of the smell from the vents.

I saw the title of this post and came here to mention the Ozone treatment. Ozone works great for a lot of smells but is EXTREMELY EFFECTIVE at treating cigarette smoke smell! You could pay a detailer to do it, or do what I did and buy an ozone generator from Ebay/Amazon for $30. The scent bombs aren't going to work in the long run, they'll just mask the smell with another stronger air freshener smell. The evaporator cleaning is good and I recommend it (I did it to my car last year). It is likely storing some of that cigarette smell along with a lot of other funk so it's worth doing, but on it's own it won't get rid of everything. Combine that with ozone treatment and it should be pretty good. |

I've used Meguiars odor bomb on a rental car that reeked of cigar smoke, and I agree that it masks the smoking smell very well, but there will still be a slight hint of smoke.
Highly recommend getting ozone generator and running it overnight in the car. |
