I've been keen on a set of these for a few years now, since Ive recently purchased a set of Ohlins R&T coilovrs recently I figured I'd compliment them with a set of monoball bearing bushings.

I've researched various offerings (there are a heap of Co's offering these (dinan rogue engineering millway turner MS bimmerworld etc etc) and found the GAS (german auto solutions) to be great BFYB and a solid sealed design which will provide years of trouble free use.

Why do I need these you may ask? Basically both the 135/335 and 1M and M3 all use a 'open' rubber bushing design. The ///M's have an upgraded rubber bushing which are better than the non ///M albeit basically they all allow for generous movement during steering, coupled with wear (lets face it most of our cars are getting old now) and with the sloppy non ///M bushings with wear they cause excessive deflection under heavy braking and steering input under heavy loads. The GAS mounts are a solid design thus there is no deflection which drastically improves steering feel and response due to less deflection and being able to maintain geometry under heavy load.

These fit all E8X and E9X chassis's. (1M & M3 included)

Ive managed to negotiate a good price on these mounts and they would be approx $320 AUD landed in Australia. RRP is $275 USD plus $76.15 USD for shipping downunder so a significant saving (dinan are $529 USD!)

To save costs these would be sent to one central location then distributed from there at a small cost.

How difficult will it be to press out the old bushing and press in the new?

Can this be done on the vehicle or will we need to remove the control arm and fit on the bench? Does it require a special tool?

I've done this on PeterY 's control arms.

Can technically be done on the car, but not sure why you would as theres only two fasteners to undo and remove it from the car

You can use improvised tools to get the bushes out but would be a bit tricky pressing them in consistently. Using threaded rods would be shit, Peter tried that and got it most of the way in, but eventually broke the tool.


A C shaped tool like this would be better than a threaded rod (assuming there is enough clearance in the tool to accomodate the large diameter bushing):

I have one of the above tools but no idea whether it'll work.

I installed them on my 12T hydraulic press which made it very easy and no marks or scratches on the parts afterwards.

If you look on that company's website, you can purchase or rent the tool made by them for this application.

If you guys are all going to bang them out at the same time, it may be worth renting it and having it shipped with the order to save on shipping costs (as mention on the site)

I organised the original GB 12 months ago, the ball joints that I ordered recently with Vince are his development joints for a ball jointed rear arm setup

Yup the GAS monoball's are a great mod, well made and half the price of the dinan's which are essentially exactly the same

Thanks. Do you know if these fit the M3 arms without modification?

What difference did this make? After upgrading to m3 arms, I have brake shimmy under hard braking. I heard these will help out a lot when doing hard braking, which is why I'm considering it.

Hmm sounds like you might have something loose? (are the M3 arms new? if they're used perhaps the bushings are flogged out?)

Yes they fit all E9X arms, and some guys mentioned this rectified their shimmying under hard braking issues
