Vince was nice enough to help out tonight by fitting new boost solenoids, some new vac lines and replacing my RB PCV with a new RB PCV. Coils were also not oriented properly so we popped them and turned them back to their correct position. Not sure what he did but the surging and rough running is completely gone. We took SPCGRY for a spin and couldn't get the half engine over boost fault to occur at all. Vince thinks RBs are soft, so the challenge is to do some proper logging and get the tune finished hahaha ... Thanks Vince

On the downside we found the Tial BOV is staying open at idle so the spring is way to soft!! and we also found a pretty bad boost leak which looks likes its coming from the brake booster unit

At least the car is running without the surging which has been a pita since the RBs were installed.... He also magically recoded the CD stacker which I had done some work on to see if I could get it working again ...... Vince for Pres
For the BOV spring to be soft enough to not get the flutter noise with upgraded turbos, it has to be soft enough to be open at idle. You either get:

1) flutter sound and closed at idle with a stiff spring

or

2) no flutter sound and open at idle with a soft spring.

Open at idle does not mean way too soft. Stock DVs are open at idle. Stock DVs open at 4.5psi pressure difference between charge pipe and intake manifold. Tial black is 6psi, Tial white is 8psi (nearly double stock stiffness) and Tial unpainted is 10psi.

Stock DVs are recirculating so being open wouldnt matter if they were open. They would be sucking in filtered air.

Tial is a BOV, at idle you have a massive hole in your intake that can suck in contaminants into the engine. Not acceptable at all.

Its good the surging issue is sorted now thanks to Vince aka Mr Wizard - now you can finalise the tuning and let her rip sock lol.

You should come to the drag strip with me one night and see what spcgry can run down the 1/4

I agree that recirculating is the better option for setups that prefer no flutter, which requires a soft BOV spring (sometimes meaning open at idle). That's what I would do.

I'm not sure which side of the fence I'm on when it comes to vent-to-atmosphere BOVs being open at idle. 99.9% of the time, they are always blowing out and never sucking in. Even at idle, the exhaust pulses still drive the turbos enough for the BOV to always be blowing out. There is a fraction of a second when suddenly hitting WOT from idle, it could suck in.

If somebody does not want a vent-to-atmosphere BOV being open at idle and does not want any flutter sound with aftermarket turbos, there is only one option, a recirculating BOV with a soft spring.

Alternatively you can go for a bov with a port that you can bolt a tiny little k&n filter onto it

Finished the front door cards today in the two tone theme interior mod

Removed the front door cards, removed switches etc, bored out the beige leather panel and door handle then combined them with the black door cards, fastening them with screws and washers. Reassembled and done... took all day to do including painting the door trims space gray

DIY below
