Mine came without gaiter, so I had to attach the previous MSport gaiter to it using a cable tie (underneath of course!). After pulling off the old knob, unclip the base of the gaiter, fold back to reveal the underside of the gaiter, and attach to the base of the new knob via a cable tie.

Had one of these in my E46 330d and I've got one in my E39 M5, lovely gear knob, also weighted, feels nice.

The one the OP pictured was originally for the E46 Clubsport, but then migrated to the rest of the facelifted E46 Sport models, but a knob of the same design with illumination is now fitted in the F10 M5.

The one you've pictured was the E90 M Sport knob and also in the 1 Series IIRC.

Having had this MSport one as factory fit and swapped to the design pictured by the OP, I'd say deffo go for his, not yours. Much nicer on the hand and fractionally shorter too.

Depends which version you get, the E46 version is cheaper, weighted & not illuminated, the F10 M5 version is the illuminated version and you'll need to run power to it.

I have the non-illuminated version in my E39 M5
