2005 e90 325i Fault Code P0012

I have a 2005 (Aug) e90 325i.

Over the past few weeks I noticed that the idle on the car had started to sound irregular and the car did not appear to be running as smoothly as usual.
I borrowed an OBD11 Scanner from a friend and connected it to my car. There were no immediate fault codes displayed, however there was a "pending" P0012 code which stated " CAMSHIFT POSITION TIMING OVER - RETARDED BANK 1".

Has anyone else encountered this problem ? and, is it going to be expensive to fix ?

Thanks, Eddie.

if you are still looking for an answer, check that the wires to the vanos solenoids are not switched. standing in front of the car the wire coming from the left should go to the top solenoid and the one coming from right should go to the bottom solenoid.

i just replaced the cylinder head for that exact code per advice from other threads stating that the cams might be bad scarred or vanos system was bad. i figured just replace the whole thing and the problem will go away. all i needed to do is change the connections.

This happened to me as well. Tried cleaning them from the DIY on here but no luck. Hopefully both replacements fix the issue.
