2008 325d mass air flow problems

Hi chaps,

Happy New Year

This question is for my fiancees 325d.

We bought it a couple of months ago, (118k) and had issues with the DPF, so in went 2 new thermostats and that cleared that issue.

We then has "Increased Emissions' error popping up intermittently on the idrive and according to Carly, it was MAF related errors, so in went a new MAF.

However, we are still occasionally getting "Increased Emissions' on the iDrive. This error can stay for a while but eventually just goes.

The error is logged in Carly, here is one from last night.

004BB6

Any pointers in what I should be looking at changing next to resolve this issue please.

Many thanks

Forgot to add that new glow plugs and a controller have also been fitted.

Still looking for advice on the MAF codes.

You wrote that You installed a new MAF. Is it genuine Bosch item?

I'll find out, my indy did the job for me.

If it wasn't a bosch, how would that explain the man errors before replacing it ? would the original be duff and then the replacement be a duff one too ?

Check if that's the genuine Bosch MAF and also the part number if it's correct for Your car. For such important components as MAF I always stick with OEM manufacturer (Bosch in this case), so if Your old MAF was shot and indy installed a replacement MAF (not Bosch), then who knows, the new one might not work correctly.
I also heard opinions, that even shot old Bosch MAF sometimes works better that a new chinese

Update:

Had the MAF replaced under warranty. (Not a Bosch unit) but a Cambiere (think that's how you spell it.)

Whilst swapping the MAF out my indy noticed the air filter was screwed (a new one had been fitted by the dealer who sold the car the day before I picked it up)

Hence to say the filter was fitted the wrong way wrong and jammed into place.

Junked that and a new one slotted in.

So far so good, no error codes at all and the car is now seems to perform better.

Check out the pic of the filter !

(Oh, and if i still get codes, the maf will come out and I'll pay the difference to get the bosch. After all of that, it may well have just been the filter causing the issues. I'll never know.)

What sort of a monkey does something like that
Hope you have accounted for all the bits of rubber & your engine hasn't eaten any of it.

tell me about it chappers.

I can only assume that's what they ripped off to make it fit ? no idea. there weren't any signs of bits lying around once it had been removed.

the car is running nicely now, time will tell I guess.

oh well, plugged Carly in today to check for any codes, and sure enough 004BB6 error code has been logged.

Have contacted my indy, and asked them to get me a Bosch unit.

I'd suggest clearing the MAF adaptations in Rheingold/ISTA. It's likely that the recorded values between your new and old MAF are different hence the code.

New Bosch was fitted and so far no errors on the iDrive. Haven't had a chance to see if it's logged any in the background though. Will check with Carly over the weekend.

Good call about the MAF adaptations reset, will look into that.
