I agree with the shop. The dual mass flywheel can go bad at high mileage. It's an extra $550 in parts and 1/2 hour of labor.

Kinda like the Ron White joke.... All the way to the crash site. But seriously I don't know. My original target was 250,000. The issue is it's the last of the classic BMW naturally aspirated Inline 6's. I regret getting rid of my E30. So I'm not sure.

Btw Efthreeoh, do you plan on keeping the car longer past the 300k? At what point will you think about retiring it and getting something else?

Just turned 70K on my 07 328xi (10/06 build coupe). I think the only non-maintenance items I've had are VCG and one shock mount/sleeve. It may outlive me at the rate I drive it. I'm happy to keep it indefinitely as my DD so I can keep dabbling with other older toys.

I think the N52 E90 was built as good or better than the E30. |

Congrats on your dedication to this car...wow!
Wonder what that cost of DIY would translate to if you had paid BMW Dealer to fix......$200000 perhaps, guess we will never know |

If I didn't do so many short city trips in the mountains (aka, San Francisco) id likely try the trans fluid for longer. As such im changing it at a more conservative old-world conventional 60k. Or maybe I'm just fooling myself? Also, does your moniker, aka handle, hint at your next bimmer purchase? |

Where's your wife's car at Brother?

If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."
