Yes, I've had my V1 for about 7 years and it is a great radar detector. It has saved my butt more than once. There are some limitations however:

1) A V1 can't protect you against VASCAR type speed traps. Here in PA, only the state troopers use radar. Local cops use VASCAR. Gotta pay attention to those white lines painted across the road to avoid these speed traps.

2) A V1 will detect a cop using a laser gun... but by then it is probably too late to slow down. They will have already clocked you. Fortunately in PA the state troopers don't use laser guns yet from what I understand. Other states use them quite a bit... Ohio for instance.

My V1 has saved me a couple of times on the PA interstates where the cops like to hide behind bridge abutments and will try to nab people driving by using their radar guns.

Also, be sure to check out http://www.trapster.com/

Had mine for about 6 years - has been working perfectly since day 1. Lots of good advice from 09Monaco - don't think that you don't have to pay attention with your V1 as radar isn't the only way they can get you. Mine has saved my butt more times than I can count. You won't be dissapointed...

Have one as well, does get annoying sometimes with all the false alerts! Love the arrows though.

yup, it's great. But as the others said, still have to pay attention. Mine has actually saved me twice from laser. It went off when they lasered someone ahead of me, and I slowed down right before I got to them. Basically, it's great when there are other cars in front of you to serve as targets, if you're out there alone, you're still vulnerable. And yes, there are tons of false alerts when you're in a busy shopping area. All those damn automatic doors set the thing off. But I've just slowed down in areas like that. Probably a bad place to speed anyway.

Well I do believe mine works generally well. Just remember to take it off mute or turn it on. lol Just the other day I had my V1 on mute, went pass a cop who had his/her radar gun out.

Hardwire the detector! There should be a DIY here. I had car tampering background and found the hardwiring way too easy.

i'ma cop. V1 cant really save u. i've written tickets to so many folks with radar detectors, namely V1's and Passports. If u've been lasered/radar, and they didnt pull u over, theres a chance that they are looking for more serious speeders. ie. i dont stop ppl for 72 in 60...but 73 in 60 minimum. but thats just me. sometimes, it may be unsafe to come out and catch that speeder, so we wait for the next one.

sometimes, i drive around leaving the radar on so ppl with radar detectors can slow down, even tho i'm not looking to pull anyone over.

Stopping someone for 73 in a 60 is ridiculous. You should be stopping all the people switching lanes too much and tailgating. They cause the accidents.

They key to a radar detector is training your self on how to read the signals and know what to look for/do based upon what the detector says and what you see. A V1 by it self wont save your ass unless you are vigilant and pay attention to your surroundings. Same with any radar detector. Read the V1 instructions on what everything it does means, and then after a few weeks you'll really start to get the hang of it while driving. Also, learn where your detector always goes off around town and whatnot and how many signals its picking up. Just because the supermarket is setting off you detector with 2 signals, that 3rd signal may just be a cop across the street.

So just remember, the detector is just that, a detector. Its your job to process the information and respond accordingly.

Had mine v1 for 7 years and it works great. I Use the v1 and also with veil coating on my head lights. Veil coating works really good when your being hit with laser.

who says we dont? its just harder finding those type of drivers because once u are seen, no one really drives like that unless u sneak up on them. i actually prefer ticketing wreckless drivers vs. just speeders.

i give plenty speeders warnings...it really depends on ur attitude and self-admission...at least with me.

I like to hear that. Some people try to be sneaky with policemen, however when im caught (I have a V1), i normally take the v1 down and stick it under my seat to avoid any convo about it, address them with yes "officer" and no "sir". (or mam). Ive found if you address them like that and you're sincere, and don't make some BS excuses while being honest, thats all they want is to make sure you understand (as long as you weren't COMPLETELY going crazy on the road) and they'll let you off hopefully nice.

the escort 9500ci is the best radar in my opnion, but its a custom install radar, $1600. but for a regular dash mounted radar, id personally go with valentine1 or escort 9500ix.

I don't think a radar detector helps that much when you are alone on the road but otherwise it is still useful.

As a former 17 year police officer I can tell you this is the WORST thing you can do. I pull you over and see you moving around in the car trying to shove something under the seat the first thing that comes to my mind is GUN! Drugs second. So don't be surprised if I pull you out of the car at gunpoint and search your car. That's called a 'furtive movement' and immediately heightens most officers' suspicions.

understood....valid point.

However you can't see in my backwind shield because of tint. On that note, if i didn't have it, i would leave it. If a officer is following me after i know he/she saw me speed by their trap, ill take it down and he/she cant see i ever did that. If i was IMMEDIATELY pulled over though with no time to do anything i doubt i'd touch it. So far when i've been pulled it over it was after they saw me speed, i set my cruise control to speed limit with a knot in m stomach, and they stalk me for a couple miles then pull me over.
