DME in program abort after attempted RSA delete

Installed my 3IM yesterday, then went to do the RSA delete from Bimmerlabs, and couldn't get it to connect. (This is the same setup I have successfully updated my FRM with in the past).

Figured out that when I tried to reload the Datens as per bimmerlabs FAQ I screwed something up.

Downloaded latest Daten files, used coding tool to update the Daten files, and then tried to flash the RSA delete again. This time it did a lot more, looked like it was working, fuel pump came on, and then error. After that car will crank but not start and I get a pile of DSC/FTM/etc... errors when I turn the car on, the fuel pump also runs non stop now. I had a battery charger on while flashing and had charged the battery completely with NOCO Genius float charger. I'm also using a bimmergeeks cable.

Tried flashing DME with winkfp in Comfort mode and it can't communicate. Checked in ISTA/D and it says DME is in program abort mode (blue). Tried disconnecting battery for 30 minutes and doing winkfp again, still no go.

I'm not sure how to flash it in expert mode, original zb# on the DME is 7627388, which I got before starting all of this.

Can someone please help me with a walk through on how to flash the DME with expert mode to try that?

A little more information needed

What cable are you using?
Did the RSA flash complete or get near 99% before it faulted?

What was the error shown?

Could have been a simple cable interruption.

Expert mode can be used by entering the correct .IPO, .PRG file and DME address. All of that data can be found in the *.CTL file in the Bimmerlabs download ZIP.

Chris from Bimmerlabs has been sending me a few things to try, tried erasing the DME and then flashing again, still nothing.

Bimmergeeks pro cable.

RSA delete flash didn't move past 0%. I heard the DME "reset" like I turned it off and on, then the pump came on, and then I got the error. Unfortunately I didn't take a picture of the error the first time.

Tried using the information in the .CTL file and get the same error.

INPA reads the DME and gives me a UIF# 7614170 now, which is different than when I started.

If I try flashing in comfort I get: error 209 UIF can not be read

If I try flashing the RSA delete I get: Error 106 & 2000 (error on checking data consistency) the first time, and then error 212 & 2021 (error on setting ECU address) all subsequent times.

This reminds me of the same issues I had last fall on my Z4. I never did solve it and will work on it when it warms up.
My Z4 was stuck a month until I just reflashed an older stock DME. It then started. I noticed a little more power with just the 3IM installed, but nothing like the expected 255hp.
I'll be watching the thread and hoping you get it working!

If you have Chris working on your problem, your in good hands. Few people understand these DMEs better than Hassmachine.

Yeah so true. Hass and terra are like kings of DMEs. This site would be so much less beneficial without their skills and research.

Yes, Chris obviously knows what he's doing, very thankful he's helping me out.

Mantraxalos, I've seen your posts, and thought the same thing, sounds very similar to my results.

Is it possible to replace just the DME (not the CAS as well) and change the VIN to match the rest of the car? I ask because there happens to be somebody local to me parting out a 2011 328xi, and he still has the DME that I could possibly buy.

Or is there someone I could pay to send my DME to get it repaired and possibly flashed with a tune to accept the 3im?

Great news! It's working again!

When my stupid laptop auto updated to Win 10 it changed the com settings on the cable, I went in there and changed it to 1, and both RSA delete and 330i tune flashed perfectly. Chris even asked me about this, but I just took it to mean the settings in Winkfp and not the COM settings.

Yes I know, I'm an idiot, I can't believe it myself either.

With the RSA delete flashed and 330i tune flashed, reset coding (2fa3 error) and after that no errors, DISA work perfectly (can hear them operate in INPA manual activation). The kick after 4000 RPM is definitely noticeable.

Huge thanks to Hass for the help.

Great. I already checked my COM settings so I'll have to see what is causing my issue. I'm sure you agree it was all worth it in the end!

Glad you got it figured out. Com port latency resets itself it the worst possible times. I successfully flashed the 330i code just yesterday. I failed at my first attempt earlier in the week. I was using the 10-year-old OBD cable we all bought back then and the process failed early on. I switched to a bimmergeeks cable and the RSA delete process finished in less than 10 minutes.

Thanks to Hass for this great mod!
