I know lifters do get stuck put also it is worth to point the fact that with time this hoses become brittle and may cause a vacuum leak. As I said, I will replace my system and inform if this fixed it. If not I will change or clean the lifters and make a new diy.

Made no difference, iddle is smother. Exhaust smell has lessened.
When I changed the ccv system I noticed quite a lot of oil that was stored in the intake manifold.

I don't think it's necessarily the lifters that's the issue. I think it's the way the oil moves up to that part of the engine. Do you drive spiritedly? Usually when I ran — if the tick was present, it would be diminished if not completely gone after a few trips to the redline.

Guess we're waking up a dead thread.

If you've got an n52 with the external pcv system I would highly suggest taking a look at the oil separator that big round thing. I pulled a 3 stage manifold from a car that had one of those and that piece is full of hard carbon and oil residue that comes out in balls of it.

Regarding the lifter issue my n52 did it once when it was over due for an oil change on Castro's 0w40. It went away with a bit of hard driving and has never done it again after switching to Valvoline 5w30. I think the type of oil makes a big difference because this noise mainly is oil draining out of the lifters after sitting for a while, an oil that clings better to engine parts will stay on them for longer after sitting for a while and will also protect the engine better in cold starts. So I'd try different oils and treatments before biting the bullet

Just bought the parts to make a lifter change. Will try to do it at home. Fingers crossed everything goes smooth

That's a big undertaking. There's a guy on YouTube that did it on an n54 you can probably use that as a reference. Though the n54 doesn't have valvetronic and has lower removable cam bearing ledges in the intake

So now I am not sure if I should change all 24 lifters or only the ones from the exhaust side. A lot of lifters where just a little bit loose, I could barely move them side to side, but the bad lifter could be moved up and down, not side to side

Interesting. I wonder if replacing the letters would fix. Is this a tough job?

Finished changing the lifter, though job. If you are mechanically inclined you can do it. This issue was fonnaly fixed, it turned out that the lifter was completely broken inside. Now the car runs smooth with no lifter noise.

Very nice congrats on tackling it. Glad it runs good now. Wonder if what's causing these lifters to fail is the oil draining out of them after sitting for a while due to a bad design, rushed engine warm up in colder temperatures or improper oil viscosity for their tolerances.

Agreed. Well done! Wish someone would do a full video of this on YouTube. Pretty sure I have a broken lifter in cylinder 6 causing an intermittent misfire. Don't think I personally have the mechanical confidence to undertake such a daunting task though.

How long did it take you? I understand it's like a 10 hour job.
