Resurrecting an old thread. Is there a way to get either the coolant or engine oil temp to display without having to re-enter the code every time. My only complaint about my car is that it doesn't have a temp indicator, so I never know when the engine is warm enough to punch it. Thanks in advance.

No way to get the temps on an E90. The 335i has an oil temp guage though.
However, from what I have read on the forums, you wouldn't even want a coolant temperature guage. The reason is that supposedly our cars actually run at different temperatures depending on the conditions at hand (that is, N52 based cars, or the 325i,328i, and 330i). With that in mind, the guage wasn't included since it would constantly be moving about, and would lead to a lot of people thinking that their car was broken.

Well, this has been posted here before, but if you have iDrive, just go to "service" then "oil level." The computer waits until the engine is warm before reporting the oil level. You can just keep it on that screen -- it will say "no reading" until the engine is warmed up, then it will show the level. Once it does, you know the engine is up to operating temp.

I'm sure you can do the same thing with the OBC stalk without iDrive, but I don't do it that way, so I can't explain the procedure.

7-8 minutes of moderate driving.
After that you're good to go to take it to redline!

Thanks for the helpful responses re oil temp. I know how to check oil level via the stalk in my non-iDrive model, so I may go that route.

Arrow Hidden odo menus

Just to come back to this story of the hidden menus. My E90 displayed a RED INSPECTION warning. I went to my dealer. The mechanic put my keyfob in the car, went into the menu with the odo button and reset this red warning. He said it was a German CO emission test not valid for all countries. He also stated that it is "possible" to reset the oil change and other service warnings/indicators via this method. Well that is good news if true - if I understand correctly, I can service my car at home after the maintenance plan expires and reset the dash display warnings self via this menu or does the dealer still have to do this via the OBC computer ?

So let's REALLY resurrect an old thread...

Does anybody know if the menu structure changed on the 08 335i? I can't seem to get past item 8.

Thanks.

It is VERY old. I was trying to do this on an 08 e92 335i and was having challenges. Hopefully somebody can chime-in and let me know if there is something different.

But resurrecting this thread does prove that can work sometimes

Isn't it a lose-lose situation, 2e9x's? If you search, they complain you resurrected an old thread. You don't search, and you're a n00b for not searching.

By the way, my April 08 build can get to 19 to unlock the menus...

Is this the one that you use to reset your trip odometer?

Not working

1) I read a trick on the MT web site to unlock the BMW menu.
I would like to know if some had tested it ? and if yes, what arrived ? and how to relock the menu.

here is what I read:
For 'navigation' in the menu's, use the 'mileage reset button'.
To get IN the menu's push that button for approx. 15 sec.
Keep it pressed until you get the "01.__" in the display between the RPM and speedo-meter.
"XX.YY" means the menu-numbers.
If you want increase the "XX" part, push the 'mileage reset' button for approx. 2 sec.
As soon as you see "XX.__", you can increase XX by pressing the 'mileage reset' button.
Every 'push' increases "XX". If you want to increase the "YY", when the display shows,
for exmaple "01.00", then every 'push' on the 'mileage reset', will increase the "YY" value.

01.00 FGSTNR = "Fahrgestellnummer" (Chassisnumber)
01.01 K-ZAHL W/T
01.02 BMWTNR
01.03 COD DIA
01.04 KI HSTL DATUM = "Herstellungs Datum" (Manufactored/Essembled on date...)
01.05 ???
01.06 SW
01.07 KODIERDATEN
01.08 CAN
02.00 KI TEST = Dashbord test. All light, gauges, displays and so on will light up,
move.... works only when the engine is NOT running.
03.00 ??? (maybe it will show something after your first 'service', motoroil change)
04.00 MOM VBR = actual fuel consumption
04.01 RW-VBR-MOM = fuel consumption per hour
05.yy average fuel consumption
06.00 how much you have in your 'tank' in liters. Left- and Right compartment and Total
06.01 dito in hex?
07.00 KTMP-MOM = Temp. Cooling Fluid (celcius)
07.01 ATMP-MOM = "Aussentemperatur" Temp. Outside (celcius)
07.02 dito in hex?
07.03 N-MOT-MOM = RPM
07.04 N-VWF-MOM = max. RPM at the moment. E60 it gives a vlaue. E90 it shows "-----"
08.00 V-EFF = exact speed
08.01 V-ANZ = "Anzeige" speed shown on dash..
08.02 V-SZ
08.03 D-GESCHW 1 WEG
08.04 D-GESCHW 1 ZEIT
08.05 D-GESCHW 2 WEG
08.06 D-GESCHW 1 ZEIT
09.00 Voltage
10.00 KM/WOCHE
11.00 ??? , has to do how the time will be displayed
11.01 km or miles
11.02 Celcius or Fahrenheit
11.03 how to display fuel consumption. km/l or l/100km or mpg
12.00 V-ANKUNFT = arrival time 12.01 ANK-ZEIT = time of arrival
13.00 AUDIO = all(?) sounds. Like the 'boing' of the 'light on warning'
14.00 FS EINTRAEGE = error messages (if any)
15.00 Oil temp??
16.00 Dashbord lighting.
17.00 Temp inside in the car??
18.00 CC-TEST = you can see some of the 'check control' messages.
Look also at the iDrive screen!
19.00 UNLOCK
20.YY to 23.YY ???

That UNLOCK stuff is also important.
If not UNLOCKed, you can only see menu's 01 and 02.

In the '19' menu you must 'click-in' a unlock code.
That code you can calculate from the "FGSTNR" number.
You must add the last 5 figures of that FGSTNR number. for example:
: XXXXXX12345 the unlock code will be: 1+2+3+4+5=15

20.YY to 23.YY There is more to discover......

2) I have the iDrive with 8"8 screen but not the TV option. I would like to know if it is possible now to add the TV option easily (of course it would have been better to choose it at the beginning )

Thank you by advance for your answers
i have tried to follow the instructions, i'm 99% sure i'm doing as it is written, since i also watched online videos about that, but when i insert the code in the 19 page, nothing happens and the menu is not unlocked
