I just followed the DIY to delete the RDC and go to FTM today.
I found the module behind the insulation above the battery. 2008 E91 the DIY thread was very concise and step by step with ncsexpert for the coding. |

TPMS antenna relocation
Thank you for the location information!
I was able to pick up a replacement from a local salvage yard for cheap. For my '11 E90, it was plug and play. However, It only lasted about a month before it failed (you get what you pay for). I'm wondering since it did work for some time, would have lasted longer if it was mounted away from the elements? Living in New England, In the winter, most of the water on the road is usually mixed with salt - Of course, this is not a good combination for exterior electronics. I've since picked up another older style (3616793122) from a salvage yard - again for cheap and plug n' play. I tested it and it works... for now. In an effort to prevent re-occurrence, has anyone tried relocating the TPMS antenna from outside the body to an interior location, such as inside the trunk area? We could guess that they may have located it outside for a better signal, but I do not have any data to support that theory. Or...but does the updated part number (36106868194) new, from the dealer, built to withstand salt water? |

spray the connector with corrosionx when you assemble.
then put the module in a ballon, with a zip tie over the harness to hold it. that's what I used to do with receivers in sea planes before I just started treating them with corrosionx. if you really want, split the module open ad treat the PCB with corrosionx. |

Relocated TPMS module
Thanks for the suggestions nsjames. I'll look into getting some corrosionx at some point, as that looks like a great product!
For now, these are the steps that I took.
Repair cost: $30. Time: 1 hour. It's only been a couple weeks, but so far so good. I also tested the system by lowering air pressure in one of the tires. The low pressure warning activated as expected. I then was able to clear the error after setting pressure to recommended levels. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oct 4 2019 update: It's been about 4 months and all is still good Nov 1 2022 update. Still good! Last edited by loc116; 11-01-2022 at 11:34 AM.. Reason: status update |
