Both passenger seat belt and airbag warning lights are on, as well as passenger airbag indicator. Found this link that may help in DIY fix:

'06 325i 68K with sport seats (the passenger seat has less than 10K of use), same problem, same response from the dealer. Will be calling BMW NA, if they refuse, will have it repaired by an independent and will put the car up for sale.

I also just encountered this issue. 06 330xi with 80K and sport seats.
I called my local dealer and BMW NA, and they both said there are no recalls for my car.

Anyone have any luck replacing the mat?

Interesting.

I wonder if a new mat requires coding/programming.

I'm here to join the declined party..it's ridiculous that bmwis denying so many of us when it's an obvious issue

I can't afford 1k to fix this so Im doing the coding on it...

I know where to find it,I know how to deactivate it however before proceeding I am just gathering more ibfo info what exactly the sensor does

If I deactivate it does the airbag deploy regardless there's someone or there isn't or if I deactivate the sensor it actually deactivated the Airbag instead

Also saw some bypass thingys on eBay that seem to be relays..

Anyways I'm bumping this thread cause I believe bmwna is full of crap for denying and putting our passengers live on risk

So I decided to bite the bullet and replace the sensor, I picked up the sensor mat that includes the seat cushion at Tisher for $300. I did the work myself, removed the old cushion and the leather upholstery. It wasn't that bad, It took me about 2 hours to replace. However, the airbag light is still on. At this point, I'm pretty sure I need some sort of reset tool. I"m gonna have to ask BMW to diagnose this even though I have the thought of it. Anyone have any ideas?

Take it to an autozone, and have them reset the code. No need to pay the dealer to do a job that autozone does for 20$.

Autozone was not able to clear the alert, it's not one that can be cleared with a scan tool, it has to be cleared with a special SRS airbag tool. Auto Scandia in Herdon Va, reset it for $95.

this was my situation. I had the airbag light, took it to the dealer, they said they could not do it under warranty and they spent 10+ hours trying to figure it out, and they couldnt, so they were going to charge me for these hours. I told them that there is no way I am paying 1.4k for a job that was not completed. They waived it after I raised hell.

I went home, looked under the passenger seat, and low and behold there was a plug that was not plugged in. I plugged it in, took it to autozone, and had them clear it, and nearly 2 years later I am error free.

Getting same error from seat sensor

I have an 06 325i that falls within the range of dates for the recall with the same issue on my passenger side seat sensor. I got the bad news from the dealer today that the sensor needs to be replaced to the tune of $1100. I mentioned the recall but the Service Adviser pleaded ignorance. I called BMW NA, gave them the last 7 off my VIN and was told my car was not part of the recall. Has anyone qualified after calling BMW NA? It seems like the only people who get the sensor replaced are under warranty or CPO contract where BMW is liable for maintaining the vehicle.

I am almost certain that it is a faulty sensor that is causing the error code. DIY doesn't seem to be an easy fix. I might go with a local Euro car specialist in my area. They do good work.

As a side note, my 325 also had a leaky engine gasket, bad alternator belt, thermostat is stuck, and transmission is leaking fluid. I don't even want to say what I was quoted by the dealer for this. I thought this didn't happen to BMWs until well over 100k miles. My e36 is at 123k mi and still working like a swiss watch. Guess they don't make 'em like they used to.

I too am looking for the part number so I know that I am buying the correct thing. I have a 330i 2006 with the same problem.

Does anyone have pictures or know which wires are for the sensor mat under the seat? I have my seat removed from my car but there are so many wires I am not sure which is which

My wife's 06 325i has the same problem. When she called the dealership they told said her car was not a car affected by the recall.

We did have the code pulled and got a mat sensor code, when she told the dealership that the airbag code was due to a faulty mat they said, they couldn't fix it and if she wanted it replaced it could cost $2200.

Thats BS, try a different dealership, just had mine replaced one month ago and they gave me no issues, the car is out of warranty and still didn't pay a dime. My service representative and the technician that happened to be in his office both said its a very common on X5 (e70), 5 series (e60), a 3 series (e90 (all 06 model year vehicles). Im really surprised they would even argue or try suggesting it wasn't the mat. They told be the wires in the passenger side bolster are extremely likely to brake, causing a short, which gives the passenger airbag warning.

Anyone actually get this issue resolved? Whether through a recall, goodwill, or out of pocket? The chime is going off and realized that this is a very common issue.

I want to get this issue taken care of but apparently I'm not part of the recall, though it seems alot of 06 builds with sports seats have this issue. Any suggestions? The seat is in great condition, lightly used so I'm stunned as to how this happened.

Add me to the list. 2006 330i with sports package.
Got the error code, Tischer says they will not cover it. BMWNA says they will not pay for it... I'm now looking at a DIY.

flyinglow330, if you are still around, do you have the part #?

Thanks

So basically, what I did was I filed a complaint on the NHTSA website and I am going to print out all of the complaints and go into the dealership and go to bat...
My 330i got covered under that specific recall. Out of warranty, and even out of CPO.
