Which 3M Vinyl for steering wheel trim?

Looking to wrap my steering wheel trim this week because of the usual peeling. Question is does Matte Black or Satin Black match the OEM trim the best? Would like to order today on Amazon!

Thanks!

I wrapped my E46 trim but didn't care for it. Later, I prepped the trim and sprayed it with a chalkboard finish which turned out well. I just replaced the trim when I bought my E92.

I had the same dilemma recently - paint vs. vinyl.. what brand/color.. I bought the vinyl below to test out and it ended up being a perfect match. The 24x12 costs less than $7 and has enough material to wrap 2-3 times in case you mess up.

Make sure you peel off all of the old rubber paint so the surface is smooth. The old paint peels fairly easily with a little nail polish remover and rubber kitchen gloves.

Vvivid Matte Black from Amazon:

Did mine in Matte black, and you can't tell the difference between oem and this finish.

You know the best way to remove the peeling rubber coating?

I've heard a small amount of nail polish works well and a plastic scrapper.

I did a thread on nail polish remover. There was no need for any scraping.
It falls off on its own.

Awesome, I've got a bottle sitting around. Honestly I attempted to strip mine with aerosol paint stripper and it didn't do a very good job. Once I got it to where I was somewhat happy I tried rustoleum peel coat. It didn't go on the way I wanted either. So now I'll have to restrip the trim and wrap in vinyl. Last resort is new OEM trim...

Wish I wasn't in such a hurry the first time!

I can understand because I did the same. Now, I realize that I see and touch it every time I drive so I decided to spend the money.

Here is a picture of the E46 wheel before selling.

Trim is done! Took my time, less than an hour, and I'm pretty satisfied for my first time wrapping anything!
