Haven't gotten them welded on yet. Most likely will in a week or so. I'll follow up.

I'd try and find YouTube videos. Otherwise, they are not horribly expensive. Install at a muffler shop might be around $100.00. Go for it. Please post a YouTube video when you are done.

Yes. I've posted them a few times on this forum. They were done a few months before I put inlets and outlets on my car, but would still give you a pretty good idea of what they would sound like.

I can make a new one this weekend.

Found some...sounds great! I'm looking forward to doing this...do you think removing the resonator and replacing with an x pipe helped? Couldn't you just put straight pipes where the 2ndary cats are and leave the OE resonator for a similar effect?

Wondering what the inside of that OE resonator looks like? Real OEM calls it a center muffler...

I removed the OEM resonator and put a 2.5" SS X-pipe in its place in order to get better sound and some HP. However, when I did that, I got drone. So, took the secondary cats off & put in the 1792 High Flow Resonators in order to gain a little more HP, reduce some back pressure on my turbos, and get rid of the drone at Hwy speeds & the rasp at low speeds.

Reviving an old thread because there are so much good information regarding x-pipe, resonators and secondary cats.

Can anyone confirm if the secondary cats compared to resonators do more to 1) dampen the noise and 2) eliminate more rasp/drone?

I am thinking of putting in a 2.5" x-pipe in place of the OEM h-pipe resonator.

I would like to keep the rasp and noise down, so would doing x-pipe only be a good idea?

If secondary cats dampen more noise and block more rasp, doesn't make sense to eliminate them for resonators. Hope someone can explain.

Not sure if the difference is enough to have warranted bailing on the AR catless (which I will put up for sale shortly).

I'm wondering if I should put the secondary cats back in and lose the Vibrant resonators. For all I know, the secondary cats combined with the primary cats might make a difference.
Hi JasW, did you ever figure out what worked best?

I'm trying to learn from your experience and do the same for my 335is.

My idea right now is absolutely no rasp/smoke while adding more flow/performance so I can go Stage 2+.

I will keep stock downpipes with HIGH FLOW RACE CATS replacing the stock cats, I assume this will help the rasp, as you explained the catted high-flow DPs helped your situation.

Will add 2.5" x-pipe and keep stock 335is muffler without any mods to it.

Did you try to figure out if secondary cats work better than 1792 resonators to cure rasp and dampen noise?

Putting on 1792 resonators in place of secondary cats later this month. I was told to use OEM BMW Exhaust clamps which is more $ but a better way of fitment/attachment. Opinions on welding vs. clamping?

If you are talking about welding vs clamping the resonators, definitely weld.

If you are talking about welding vs clamping the mufflers definitely clamp them.

Why? When you clamp the mufflers it makes getting to the rear subframe (taking it out to redo the bushings & what not) or taking the rear differential out considerably easier. Otherwise, you have to drop the entire exhaust vs just unclamping & lowing the mufflers via a transmission jack.

Talking about resonators..My mechanic is telling me to use clamps. Why definitely welding in this case?

Not sure if you'll respond to this old thread, but did replacing the secondary cats with 1792 increase the sound? Im still debating to go fully catless + e92 x/h pipe + PE or Fully catless with Vibrant 1792 resonators in place of secondary cats + e92 x/h pipe + PE.

Where are you at? I've got catless downpipes with a PE mod. I had purchased vibrant resonators to add, but I like the exhaust note as it stands right now.

Yeah after reading some more and looking at yt vids, i think im just gonna go fully catless no vibrant resonators ,with the stock x pipe + bmw pe mufflers. I dont mind the rasp tbh. Plus i have a MT, it seems like most autoguys hate the rasp during upshifts
