Hey folks,

Well I've been debating this for quite some time...and I still don't feel 100% either way!

I'm selling my Style 230 (19's) and I'm thinking about buying some Staggered BBS RG-R's (18's) for my E92. I plan on dropping the car on atleast springs so that should help out alittle.


The fitment for the BBS wheels are E36 fitment which is perfectly fine as the wheels are 5x120 with a 72.5 center bore. The offsets are around 30...so it's all good - according to all my readings, the wheels should fit perfectly. They are 18x8.5 (Front) and 18x9 (Rear).


My issue is the size. I see certain 18's that look larger and fill up the gap and then I see other 18's that look extremely small.


I need some serious help as I spend my entire day looking at wheels...and now they're all starting to look alike!!!


Any thoughts? Am I going to regret this??? I'm tired of the rubber band tires on 19's and I'd love a thicker sidewall...but I don't want to have wheels that look too small...

18s can work just fine on an E92, but obviously 19s will appear to be larger. In my opinion 19s suit the size of the car more, but if you prefer larger sidewalls 18s might be what you're looking for. I think what you're noticing is that the spoke design can affect how wheels look, especially on mesh wheels with a lip.

I´d go wider if I where you Carlos,

F: 9x18 235/40 R: 10x18" 265/35
or
F: 8,5x18 225/40 R: 9,5x18" 255/35

With a offset 35ish you will not have any rubbing issues even if you slamm it on bags

some 18s look small when the offsets arent high, higher offsets look more sunken therefore smaller. spacers will alleviate that if you end up with that look. oem wheels in 18's do this

This is exactly the problem I'm facing. I want a larger sidewall...but I don't want the wheels to look dinky on the car.

I think the RGR's will look okay...atleast I hope so...we'll see.

I never thought about this...I believe the offsets are around 30'ish so it's pretty much the same as OEM. I don't think it should be a problem...but we'll see!

18" ccw on my car and i think they look perfect, i would never do anything over 18 to be honest with you, ive had a few sets and dont like them

I'm loving the 18x8.5, 18x9.5 RGR's on my e90, and I don't regret having gone 18" (as my stockers were, only these are wider, lighter, and better-looking).

Honestly I think in most cases it would be fine to run 18s. There are just a few wheels that might start looking small, like if it's a mesh wheel with a step lip. Just my two cents.

I hear ya...

I've been looking through threads for the past two weeks. Some days I say yay...others nay.

Any pics of E92 with an 18'' mesh type wheel you can post?

I run stock 18s... I am quite happy, but i need a drop badly!

Problem is, if i lower any more than stock, i will scrape my underside on speed bumps around my area! So i am stuck... I might need to increase to a 19" wheel and then drop a little bit. I HATE SPEED BUMPS! Some around here are a good 15cm tall! So loweing the front end is a nightmare!

stick with 18s. I have obsessively reviewed wheels and the 19s look oversized by 1/2 inch too much. On top of that I have issues with such a large tire height on skinny wheels. (I think 18x10 is much cooler than a 19x9) 19s look great on a 5 series, but the 3 series is much narrower and the side profile is sleeker making 19s a touch too large.

The problem is most mfgs are making the wheels in 19s and it is hard to find a quality wheel in 18 for a decent price. The closest I see is Advan. Oh yeah, if you want to maximize the appearance of the wheel size - go for long spokes that extend to the end of the lip and keep the lip thin. Stay away from too much "mesh".

I just don't want to spend the cash, get them installed, sell my 19's and then say - SHIT! I should have stood with 19's.

I've seen the BBS RGR's on E90s and E92s...and I like it! I don't think I'll regret this choice!

Sure! Here are a couple examples.

You can get away with a full faced 18's that will look "big" vs a 18 stepped lip which looks like a 17's. Eliminating wheel gap will also give the illusion that the wheels are larger than they really are. With the right stance you can pull it off but those mesh 18's on the M3 pix above is an example how you dont want it too look....esp on an M3.

i've got bmw style 199's in black on my black e92. imho, 19's are Perfect size.. but then, i prefer the wheel wells to look...full of wheels.

I have 18x8.5 up front and 9.5 rear.
Running 255/35 up front and 265/35 rears with NO rubbing issues.
18" with a design like my Advan RS look larger than they really are.
18" are a little lighter too.

I cant believe im seeing someone want to downgrade from 19 to 18 on an E9X. I wouldnt do it in a million years.

19's (without a stepped lip) are perfect. In the blue car in my sig it has 19's with a lip, thats my old car and i always thought they were to small looking. 19's with no stepped lip are PERFECT for E9X's. 18's dont fill up them wells enough..

It's about low, not diameter. Get you some coils and don't ever worry about rim size again.
