330d auto box

Evening folks, just looking for someone with a 330d auto to check something with the box.

When in manual and changing from 2nd to 3rd at what revs does the box permit you to shift up? I can only shift up when above around 1850 as with all the other gears its just above 1500.

I've often shifted from 2nd to 3rd and the box doesn't allow it, flicking the display from M3 back to M2, I have to then shift up again usually the revs are at the 2000mark at this stage! Anyone experience similar? It's also the same in D although be it not as noticeable as its anticipating the up shift anyway

Any ideas? Cheers Shane.

3rd gear is different to 4th, 5th and 6th because it allows slip below certain speeds. i.e. if you are going quite slow and change to 3rd, but then lift off the throttle, the revs drop to idle but you stay in gear. If you then floor it, the revs will shoot right up like a slipping clutch until the car's speed catches up, and then the box will lock. 4th, 5th and 6th are always locked up.

So, the revs that you can see in 3rd will range from idle to the red line!

Mmm interesting found this on the net apparently It has a lock up torque converter on all six forward gears!

Yep, all lock up, but only 1st, 2nd and 3rd can be unlocked. 4th, 5th and 6th will always go straight into a locked state when you select them.

Hi chaps,

Sorry for the spam but I could do with a related answer and I can yet start threads

This morning about 3 miles from home I went to overtake and the car did not accelerate quickly as normal, it did rev and accelerate but slowly and I had no kickdown.
almost like a cream crackered clutch
I stopped for the next set of lights , moved off again and it was fine

No warning lights or anything

Any idea's maybe a cold protection?

Sorry again for the spam

Regards Sam

Yeah, could be the temperature - when it's cold the car doesn't lock up so quickly, so it you were in 3rd for example it's not unusual for you to get this slipping thing.
