LIQUI MOLY....response to my questions

greetings from seattle -
for those that use and trust LIQUI MOLY products, please offer your thoughts on LIQUI MOLY'S lengthy response to my questions.

their response is a bit long, but please read and begin dialogue regarding their recommendations:

MY INITIAL EMAIL TO LIQUI MOLY:

hello,
-my 2013 bmw 335is n54 engine has 38,000 miles.
-do you recommend an engine flush for this mileage?
-if yes, will the engine flush help remove carbon deposits associated with a direct injection engine type?
-finally, which oil would you recommend for normal driving conditions and i live in seattle, wa usa with temperatures from 25f to 95f.

thanks

to me

Good day, thank you very much for contacting us and your interest in our LIQUI MOLY products.

Basically, our online oil guide on our website only recommends oils that meet or exceed the manufacturer specifications applicable to your vehicle (which is the most important factor when selecting a suitable lubricant for your BMW).

All listed products are suitable for use, for your 2013 BMW 335is our Special Tec B FE SAE 0W-30 is the best option, this top-class motor oil has the necessary BMW LL-01 FE factory approval and is ideally suited for the use in your N54 engine.

To further improve the efficiency of your BMW we also recommend you the following:

Use our Pro-Line Engine Flush at the next oil change. It will remove dirt, sludge, carbon etc. from the inside of the engine which will help the new oil to perform as best as possible from the beginning on. Further it will also remove carbon build up at the piston ring groves which will allow the rings to float freely and raise compression. A very effective way to extend the life of any engine, to optimize the oil consumption and to improve performance. For preventive maintenance we recommend using Pro-Line Engine Flush at every 2nd - 3rd oil change.

Add Cera Tec to the fresh motor oil to further increase wear protection and reduce friction. Cera Tec is our latest high-tech additive formulation that contains two active ingredients for less friction and wear. It has proven itself worldwide and will protect your engine even under tough operating conditions. The ideal dosage of Cera Tec is at around 6-7% of the total motor oil volume.

Add Motor Oil Saver to the engine oil, too, to help refresh rubber-based engine seals. Rubber based seals harden and shrink with age and Motor Oil Saver will prevent or reverse that process. If your engine is consuming oil, it may be because your valve seals are aged and hard. In that case adding Motor Oil Saver will soften these seals and reduce oil consumption. It will take approximately 400-500 miles of driving before the treatment have completed. For prevention we recommend you use Motor Oil Saver every 20.000 miles / 2 years.

Use Pro-Line Gasoline System Cleaner at every maintenance service (once a year) for a complete fuel system cleaning. Just add to a full tank of gas and do your daily driving until it’s time to fill up again. Your system will be cleaned and efficient.

To maintain the sensitive fuel system of your engine we recommend you to use our DIJectron as preventive fuel treatment regularly every around 2400 miles. DIJectron is a unique combination of state-of-the-art LIQUI MOLY additives, developed in order to keep clean and protect the sensitive fuel system of modern, direct fuel injected (GDI) engines. By using DIJectron, the risk of an LSPI event caused by deposits on the injectors and in the combustion chamber is significantly reduced. It will further optimize fuel consumption and increase engine efficiency.

Your asking them to give you advice on a car that they know nothing about. I would give you the same response if I was them. You can easily search for info on engine flushes and how they work. They are primarily for older engines that have been neglected. With that said you have a car with only 38k...but if they followed BMW's stupid oil change schedule the car has only had 3 or 4 oil changes in its lifetime. Could flush help? maybe...could it hurt? probable not.
Will it do anything for carbon buildup? NO, because you are confusing 2 different closed systems. Oil does not circulate thru the fuel system or intake. Engine flush removes old oil build up and varnish from high mileage engines.
Direct injection suffers from carbon in the intake and intake valves. That can be cleaned with walnut blasting or spraying out the valves with cleaner. Using fuel additives regularly helps to clean but nothing replaces walnut blasting in the N54.
As far as oil, his has been beaten to death over and over...use what you like or what is available. They make excellent oil, but so do other companies. 5/30 or 5/40 is good. If you live in a hot climate or drive it hard then run 5/40.

this is a sale speech, nothing wrong, but bit excessive for your needs.

I run 5w40 liquimoly on all my cars.
Planning to go with rotella T6 for availability in my area, but anygood oil with the proper grade for BMW should do. The issue we saw on forums is when people changing oil every 10 000-12 000 miles or so. This is way too long.

With the exception of the oil recommendation bearing BMW LL-01 spec, they can (and likely do) pretty much copy the rest of the email as an auto-response for any similar inquiry for any car make and model.

I just tried the SuperTech 5w40 (meets LL-01 spec) from Walmart. Available and cheap.
Whatever meets the spec with shorter than the recommended change intervals will be fine.

How much was the SuperTech from WallyWorld? I got some Castrol Euro formula there for I think $28, and Mobil1 Euro was $26. I didn't know ST was LL-01, that's cool!

Ahhhh, didn't notice the location.

Castrol Euro 5qt is currently for sale for $26US right now, plus they have a $20 gift card rebate for buying 10qts.

liqui moly 5w-40 here is insane.

Before covid, the 5L was 48$ cad at the local shop.
last week it was à 64$ cad.

Napa is 101$ cad
Local car part is 85$ cad.

>Add 15% taxes over that.

However, I learned something quite interesting, local VW indy, offers refill in your old 5L jug. Instead of 64$ it's 54$ + tx.
He buy liqui moly in barrels . Very nice of him !

Unfortunately, Canadian tires don't have any interesting BMW oil, when it's on sales, most of the time discount are interesting, 30-40% off.

Rotella T6 don't have the bmw grade, but Ill risk it for the N52. I saw so many of my friend doing track, drift contest with this oil and the car is on way heavier load than mine.

Pennzoil Euro series (some are rebadged Shell Helix) sometimes goes on sale at CT at the same time as Pennzoil's mail in rebate - it usually works out to be around $5/L. Although it's nice that Super Tech meets spec and is readily available for a similar price.

Edit: for posterity, Super Tech 5w40 "meets" specifications according to themselves, but is not actually "approved." Eg it's not on Merc's lists of approved oils:

I also wanted to get their engine flush on my new to me car to feel like I did better maintenance but I didn't like the fact that I realised if I used this product, some would stay in our oil cooler when we go to change the oil and ehhh I dunno. If I had an extremely badly maintained car and sledged up the wazoo might give it a shot but otherwise I think lower interval oil changes is just the better option if you want to feel like you clean/maintin it better.

Fellow Canadian here and I use Pennzoil Euro Platinum 5W-40. It comes to about 8.96$ CAD per liter when you buy the jugs on sale. As a bonus it also has LL01 spec (Like actually has the spec VS recomended spec) if some are worried about that. I don't see anything wrong with this oil after trying to find information on if it was good or not from BITOG forums and my conclusion was that it was a pretty good oil.
