I hope they’re better than the Porsche brakes I’ve tried, so far the two Caymans a two Carrera 2 S models I’ve tried, have had a distinctly wooden feel to them, the only one’s that feel anything like right was a 2009 model Carrera 2 |

Well I had a little drive over this weekend to see how she was getting along and take her out for a spin as it was such a lovely day!
What a fantastic car - nowhere near as grunty as either the 135i or the 335d but then again, I didn't expect that. What I can say is that I have missed my E46 M3 and 350Z for years now... I have tried to make both of the x35's behave like either, but neither did and I guess I have been feeling that for a while... The Porsche on the other hand is zingy and fun and I love the way it feels, it may not actually be going anywhere like as fast, but it did make me feel great about getting there and I reckon with a few choice mods it will be awesome... So far I am thinking Throttle Body, Exhaust, Plenum, Map and Filter which is all one package from the likes of Parr and many others whilst also an LSD fitted is about £1000.... Much better than £2100 for the 135i!!!!!!! I am also considering a change of wheels to black - same design, I'm tempted to powdercoat them as I did with the 335d... It was cheap enough that if I don't like it, I can always go back... I would have thought it wouldn't match the silver air vents then though, so black, CF or body coloured ones might need to be considered.... To answer some questions... the PCCB's don't really do anything for the braking... I suspect they take a LOT longer to cook and possibly cool quicker, but the effect on a normal road didn't seem to be apparent. The main benefit is apparently about 20kg saving overall (which is more than I have lost off my belly since Jan lol) and the unsprung weight in particular is a bonus... Especially (I guess) seeing as the car has bigger (and heavier) wheels than the standard model. I had a little play with the Sport mode and 'locked' the PASM in the on mode.... Looking into this, the setup is made by Bilstein so I guess it is similar technology as used in Tony's car and others... Maybe a generation older or whatever, but in any case it is noticeable when off or on.... I guess the idea is that even when you switch it off, the car decides when your going all out and adjusts automatically so you don't notice... Pottering about with it forced to 'on' is a bit bone crunching... Think of an M-Sport... Well, maybe not that bad lol!! Aside from engaging PASM, Sport simply seems to do what it did in the E46 M3 and changes throttle response via the wire, rather than actually doing anything. I believe on cars with a Sports Exhaust it opens baffles etc but I don't have that, oh well! Anyway, can't wait to pick her up which will be prob Wednesday or Thursday! The Business Manager has hooked me up with a free hospitality day at Silverstone which will be nice and he also quizzed me a bit about buying habits and excess income... When I told him I am only just spending half my car allowance his eyes nearly popped out... I think if he had not already put away the paperwork he would have rolled the 997 Turbo out lol.... Basically though, he says they are a proactive dealer who will, whenever they can, ring customers about good deals such as subsidised finance or especially cheap cars depending on what you like.... Judging by the experience I have had so far (very good) I would say there is a strong chance I will be in a 997 of some kind within 12 months if they get me a good deal!! Matt |

Matt - that sounds fab, good write up - smiles/feel factor is far better than 0-60 stats. You have made me go and look on the porshe approved site, damm you!
I reckon this one will hold its value better than most other marques as well?

Congrats on the car Matt. looking forward to seeing it soon! I am also looking into Porsches again, after deciding to get a Scirocco R! Circumstances have changed recently, so we'll see...

Nice write up Matt, can't go wrong with a porker for driving dynamics- looks good in guards red as well.
