Black wheels on a black car, yay or nay?

Well after much deliberation we've currently made the choice to keep hold of my E90.

To encourage this decision the other half has "allowed" me to tinker with it a bit to make it a bit more personal to me.

Considering new wheels and have come across the BBS Ch-R wheel in black with the chrome lip.

But the car itself is black so im not sure if black wheels on a black car will look right.

Opinions please?

Black wheels is all the rage, but contrast works well, dark wheels on light cars and light wheels on dark cars

All personal preference, I've never liked black alloys on any car.

Good looking alloys, good looking car and black looses the definition in the design. They just look hollow to me. The darkest I like are gun metal, they can look great on certain colours.

Its personal preference so I would do what you want and what makes you happy.

I'm with briers, black wheels look basic and non descript on most cars.

Ive done the black with black and decided to change to gun metal and the difference is massive, shows the definition of the wheels and shows the concave of the wheels more.

I am also not a fan of black wheels.

A really bright wet looking silver always gets my vote.

See what he said.
If you spend 1000 on the wheels and they are brilliant in their design but black, their definition will be lost.

And see the example here. He learnt it by experimenting it and ended up having different colour.

+1

Wheels give focal points to a car and provide a visual reference for the car's "stance". A lot of other elements of the cars shape are similarly defined by reference to the wheels (overhangs, wheelbase, visual CofG etc). The problem with black wheels on a black car is that these reference points don't stand out enough from the background to generate all of the above naturally.

Still, if you like them, what do I know?

personally don't like black wheels. ive just bought a set of 19" ch r's in silver and they look the nuts, I think on a black car they would look fantastic. where are you getting the wheels? try baanvelgen in Holland about £250 cheaper than the uk and a good bloke to deal with.

Personally not a fan off black wheels, I've just put some hyper silver csl reps on my black e90 and think they look awesome but suppose I'm bias, They just stick out so much on a black car which I love.

I think black wheels on any colour tend to look wrong.

The reason isnt the colour of the car, actually the rubber on the tyres.

Black wheels look rotten without tyre gloss when the tyres take on a more brown tone. Once the tyres have ages a bit the whole thing doesn't look right, even with tyre shine.

I'm a fan of contrast mate with hyper silver! or even the anthracite!

Anthracite gives the nice dark stealth look and classier in my opinion
