I tried for a new pipe and they told me it did not need one that the seals were what the puma recomended for the fix. How can I argue with that?
That was a few months ago now still my mpg is not so hot and never noticed any difference in power

well i shall be taking it down tomorrow morning and see what they say. I will ask that a new pipe be put on there as i dont want to have to come back again for the same issue. If there is a known fault then they should replace the whole lot! Fingers crossed I'll get what i want!

Fack,

I just read this entire thread. Looks like I will be peering into my engine bay tomorrow morning.

Will I need to get the car jacked up and whip the under-tray off to have a look properly or will it be obvious enough through the top?

Are you going down to have it looked at regardless of whether your motor actually has exhibited the symptoms as a preventative measure? Let me know what the outcome is and if the dealer cooperates...would be great news if this issue can be resolved before it becomes a full-on problem. Preventative maintenance is better than reactive in my book!

Ok guys,

I took some pics of my motor today. What do you guys think?

My red hose looks clean but I had a feel of the underside and there was definitely some oil down there.

Also, the under-tray definitely looks like it's got some oil on it. What are your opinions?

I'm no expert, but that pipe looks as clean as a whistle, mine's brand new( fitted two weeks ago) & looks about the same...not sure about the drip tray though...mine had a lot of residue from the leak, so it's hard for me to comment...but the red boost hose looks fine...if the seals were leaking, the hose would be oily black...

You will get the residue on the drip tray, thats why they fitted it. Hoses do swell etc and sometimes perspire.

Toxic is looks alright mate.

I could do with a drip tray to catch some of my hose perspiration.

Cool, thanks for the opinion. As I said the top side of the hose is fine as you can see in the pictures. I got my hand down to it and the underside of it definitely has a fine layer of oil on it but not enough for me to worry.

Cool, thanks Carlos. The tray defo has some oil on it but I think in those pictures there's also some beads of water too which is probably making it look worse.

If and when I get around to taking the wheels off for a clean/crack inspection I might drop the under-tray off too and give it a quick clean and inspect the hose area from underneath.

Need to get my jack and axle stands out.

Will, I don't know what to say to you!

Mine is going in for this week after next. Is there a number or something I should be quoting for the PUMA?
Knowing BMW dealers, they will replace the minimum they can get away with. There is some oil on the under engine tray, but nothing showing as lost on the dipstick, and I hadn't noticed any change in performance or economy.

Garage verdict was a breather pipe was off. Refitted and secured. I will watch with interest.

Right i just went through the entire thread and then went to the car for a check... I found a totally black hose with red patches, in other words my hose is totally covered with old and there is oil on the tray...

BMW warrenty has finish so i was wondering if anyone has been able to get this done under goodwill?

I assume its going to be costly with BMW?

Or any advise on getting it done from BMW or Private Garage??

Might be worth taking it to a stealer just to get an "opinion" but make sure they don't charge you anything for it!!

Get a quote to rectify if possible then find a local BMW specialist and see what they can offer? Many stealers will price match if you ask nicely too...

Worth a shot surely?? Do you have any pictures of your hose/tray?

I havent taken any pictures but i used a tourch and could see alot of oil and it looked like it has been building up for some time however i have not niticed and change in performance... plus i got it evolved recently and it has 305hp as standard when it went on the dyno...

I've just realised that i have a RAC Gold Warrenty on the car from the dealership i brought the car from in december... i didn't use the stealer as they were way out of reach for me.

I'm going to give RAC a call and see if they will cover it under there warrenty...

If the pipe has failed, then it will be covered.

Define failed though!

Hello All,

I've just discovered that I also have this issue. Its a bugger I've just found out now, as when I bought the car it still had a months warranty and I wanted to get issues like this sorted out then.

Think I'll get any dealer goodwill 5 months out of warranty? I didn't purchase the car from this dealer and its original dealer is 150mls away.

What cost am I looking at to get this fixed by an Independant? Since I'm paying with my monies, should I pass on getting the hose replaced, just go for the seal?

Thanks for your help.

Spoke to my stealer and they say I have to pay for diagnosis charge even If I get goodwill to fix the issue, hours labour is £130 inc VAT, might be that long to diagnose, might not be.

My Independant says all the diesels he works on have a similar issue and its nothing to be concerned about, as long as power isn't affected then I shouldn't worry about it.

What should I do?

I ordered a 335d and will be picking it up in Munich the end of this May. Does anyone know if this issue was resolved on the 2011's?
Thanks
