Sorry to bump this again but I'm trying to gather my evidence as to why I shouldn't have to pay for this.

Primarily, does the fact that my light washers worked prove the filter in the bottle wasn't blocked?

Also, I'm worried how the garage managed to do a temp fix so quickly. If it was the filter that was the problem do you think they might have just stuck something down the tube and broke the filter? My wife mentioned something about 'a hole'! Hope not!

Headlamp washers use a separate pump as far as I'm aware.

All they would have done today is backflushed the filter using a compressed air jet giving you a temporary fix.

I just don't get what's blocked it - only water and a bit of fluid has been in there. It's weird.

Apparently this is a common fault on these cars, mine is a 325i 2006 bought from a main dealer about 6 months ago, water pump working fine and a trickle of water coming out of the jets, headlamp ones are fine, I phoned BMW booked it in for them to have a look at, they said probably the filter but bring it down and they will investigate, wanted car for two hours presumably to charge two hours of labour at £90 per hour, they said they have to remove the bottle from under the wheel arch and clean filter so on and so forth, they said it is not covered under warranty and is chargeable even though I have only had the car 5 months, they said I would need to get their sales dep to pay for it but be prepared for a battle

Read a few more reviews on here and someone said put a Calgon tab in and leave for a bit, so I thought I would give it a go, I also finished topping up the water bottle with very hot tap water, blew into the water bottle itself and also removed the pipe that feeds water to the washer jets and blew down it resulting in loads of bubbles coming in to the water bottle, if you havnt got great lungs like me lol try using a small football pump and pop it into the rubber tube and pump for dear life, Worked a treat for me and the washers are working better than they ever did. Hope this helps

Great tip and try it before putting it in to your main dealer, some dealers will charge and some reading other reviews don't, just depends on who your main dealer is.

Such a Common Problem as Google search's have stated.

I tried to sort mine out at the weelkend just gone, worked for abit and then Blocked again!

My Method was to withdraw all the water from the bottle with a syphon pump (purchased it for jacking fuel a year or two ago....LOl)

Once all the liquid was remove i poored hot water in the bottle and then disconnected the driver side connection to the jet and blew bubbles with my mount.

I blew the B*itch hard!! lol

Left it in there and filled with screenwash and they worked!!!

worked for around 2mins and now the same problem!

Guys and girls, dont waste you time with these temp fix's.

Best way forward is gonna have to be taking wheel and lining off and cleaing filter.

Gonna give it ago this weekend, will keep you updated

Good luck and dont burn you motors out!!!!

Hi mate, you have he right idea but instead of blowing yourself you need an air compressor. That fixed mine and the problem never came back. Although I didn't even bother emptying tank. It just blew the water out along

If you have a BMW under warranty or otherwise, always use BMW Windscreen Washer fluid and always mix with distilled water (Halfords) and you wont have problems.
If you are driving the best use the best!
PS Unless you are really hardup and then you should'nt be driving a BMW!

Yep the only real fix is wheel off, lining out, slide washer bottle out, motors/pumps out, clean filters and back together again.
No special tools and i'm no mechanic, took me around an hour but now I know how I could half this time.
Give it ago, you might even enjoy it!
I would'nt want to go blasting air down there for fear of damaging the motors or something but it's worked for others so hey ho.
And yes there's 2 different motors for the headlights and the windscreen so that's why one can work and not the other.

For me, I think the problem came from low mileage and therefore not squirting much so the water was sitting around and went mouldy.

So now, I squirt loads as add fresh water regularly. Don't think I'm going to bother with BMW fluid either. Never had to before.

Great wealth of information on this site thanks.

I managed to strip wheel arch down and cleaned the filter. However even after reassembling everything , washer is still not working
I can hear a whirring noise , and can even smell the "freshness" of the BMW washer fliud additive but nothinigs coming out of the nozzles.
Put a pin in the nozzle holes as well.
How can you tell if the motor is burnt out?

I think it could be a pipe popped off it could be worth checking the pipes first.

Can someone explain exactly what is so special about BMW fluid? As far as I can see its just heavily concentrated to stop freezing so why would it prevent a block? As for the water, why bother with distilled?

Not sure about the BMW washer fluid but it must have a natural anti-mould agent and is kind to the environment........

And thats about the sum of it.

No point pissing about 'backflushing' with airlines etc.

This shite gets into the headlamp washers and ruins them too.
Which is why so many of you are having failures.

You need to strip it and remove the 'jelly' thats in there from mixing products - the mould and limescale.

The stick to ONE brand would be my advice.

It is possible the BMW product has some kind of neutraliser for limescale that others don't.
Any chemists want to play with a sample?

It probably happened because it was blocked in the pipe somewhere poss iced up so
so if does happen again at least you know where the problem is.
Only to happy to help and sometimes as I found out that you should check the simple things first
so you don't waste your money on the pricey stuff just to find out it's a plug come of like I
nearly did with my pass occupancy sensor

Hi, I've had my 330d M Sport for over a week now and have noticed my washer jets are not working at all, not even the sound of the pump. Also replaced the 30 amp fuses still no luck.

I had exactly the same problem couple of days ago..tried dissolving the Calgon tablet in the washer reservoir..made no difference. Took the black cover/lid(just above the jet nozzle-right at the middle of the bonnet next to the brake fluid cover) held by 6 small screws off..and surprise surprise found out that the pipeline that connects to the nozzle has popped off..strange..not sure how did could have happened. Reconnect it and bob is your uncle...been perfect all day today. I dread to think how much a trip to the stealer would have costs me if i haven't removed that cover and have a look underneath.
