Thumbs up Long Story Short.

I have an 08 335i MT with 80k, recently while driving i noticed that after i would push the gas my RPMs would shoot up but power wouldn't show until about a couple seconds later...well last night i started to get a smell in my car like something burning.so i looked for what it could be and the only place i noticed that could be the culprit of the smell was the charge pipe which had oil on it, . Any helpful input would be appreciated.

Sounds like a clutch. Does it grab higher in the rpm band range and then go on from there?

Your clutch is slipping. Replacement is labor intensive and will be expensive. Start developing a good relationship with a local independent mechanic.

I've heard right around $700 for labor. It is a possible DIY but not an easy one.

Sounds clutchy. Are you the original owner? How many miles did you personally put on the car? Just thinking there may be ways to extend the life of the next clutch you install by easily changing a few driving habits.

Do you rev very high to take off in first gear? Or make sloppy gear changes/downshifts?

Not that I know I usually shift between 2000-3500 in first,& I made a few mistakes to where I shift from 4th to 3rd ,but that was very rarely,(when i wasnt use to my car yet)And I hardly downshift usually just throw it in neutral and let off the clutch at the light.

80k is on the low side of needing a clutch but who knows how it was driven before it got to you. I need one now at 125k on the E90, but it was also protuned for 50k miles.

Just go to a shop, ask them to drive the car as you think the clutch is going. They will confirm but i'm 90% sure that is your issue especial with the smell and it grabbing up top.

No he means do you use a lot of revs to start off from a stop. Doesn't matter how high it revs after the clutch has been engaged. But using a lot of Rpms to start off is unnecessarily wearing the clutch.

Oh.haha and no I don't, but recently I have to atleast take off at 4k rpm, otherwise my car won't go anywhere.

Well well I recently got warranty like 2 weeks ago, and I have to wait a month before I can do any warranty work. and it sucks if it is my clutch.

Ok yes it's definitely your clutch slipping. And a pretty good amount at that haha. Good luck man
