I'm looking for the same set-up as you did on your car. but probably will go with H&R race instead of the Sport ... I have the exactly the same wheels as you. Can you tell me what size on tire did you go with ?

One last question...what wheels? Are they Avant Garde, VMR, or something else?

how does the ride feel?

a couple friends ride on lowering springs and stock struts, but they complain its floaty.

hows the ride quality compared to stock?

a mod all XI owners need to do... the wheel gap on the XI's are horrific, destroy the look of the car

if you need clearance but still want some performance get a legacy GT

245x35x19 front
265x35x19 rear - I would go 275 if I did it again

Good news and bad news. Good news - the front settled and looks perfect now. Although it's hard to tell from the pic below, the gap finally looks right - not slammed, just right.

Bad news - I would NOT do this again without replacing the struts. In fact, it's probably dangerous. I have to be very careful when going +80 on in-town streets and bumpy interstates. It's VERY floaty. I actually considered taking them off or replacing the struts. I just don't want to spend $1500 on new suspension. I'm only going to have the car for a couple years.

Looks bad ass, rides like s*. (still goes fast though!)

Did you bother to research the effects of using a stock strut and aftermarket lowering spring? Or you did and you just didn't care?

Yes. I did a lot of reading on the setup, but the results were mixed. From a technical standpoint it seemed like a bad idea. But, there were some people who said they did the modification and felt no changes in the ride. I had to interpret the technical logic and weigh it against real-world experience. I hated the 4x4 look so much that I didn't really care if the ride suffered slightly. Lesson learned.

BTW - the XI ride is floaty from the factory. Now it just sucks a little more. I have no intention of tracking this car, so it's not a big deal.

Much better, hope you don't hate the ride in a month like I did. One of the worst decisions I made to go with springs only

From what I know, Eibachs don't exhibit that kind of behavior. H&Rs are known to be floaty and wobbly - from BMWs to Audis. Eibachs ride a tad higher than H&Rs, a tad softer than H&Rs, but do not suffer from the drawbacks commonly associated with H&Rs.

If you'd like to improve the ride right now without splurging on coilovers, I suggest tighter front and rear bars. You won't compromise comfort, but you'll definitely get rid of that floaty feeling and the car will absolute carve every corner you throw at it. I did the rear sway bar on my Audi A6 4.2...and it turned that two-ton behemoth into a much, much better car around the corners. Will be doing the front in the next month or two.
