New Supra Is Going To Be Great!

I've been looking at all the differing opinions on the new GR Supra and I too was very disappointed initially when I first heard about it and saw the reveal. Then I started to look into it more and started to put two and two together. I think Toyota was actually very smart to partner with BMW to make a proper sports car, something they haven't done (properly) in quite some time.

I'll start with looks. Compared to the FT1 concept, it is very lackluster. I think most people though, including myself, compared it to the FT1 and that's why we were disappointed. After looking at it for an extended amount of time, the looks have grown on me. On it's own, it's quite a nice looking car. I think it's a bit aggressive compared to the Mark IV but looks are subjective anyway.

After looking at multiple videos and hearing people complain about the BMW engine, it then dawned on me. Not only have BMW been producing Inline 6 turbo/NA engines for as long as we can remember, but the N54 motor has even been dubbed as the *new* 2JZ motor on the streets. What better manufacturer to go to for the base of a new Supra than them. Add in the touch of Toyota reliability to the mix, and you have a recipe for something great!

As we all know by now (if not, I will post the video below), Toyota and BMW were only partnered up to build the core platform of the vehicle. Everything else was done independently of each other. Toyota oversaw the reliability of the new B58 engine that BMW had in the works. It's even been stated that the Supra and Z4 feel like different cars. The only problem I have with the car is the high price tag. It should of been in the $40k range, but that's just my opinion. I think the car will sell well if only for the name and will have a lot of proving to do but I am optimistic. I truly hope the new Supra blows everyone out of the water.

I'm a big manual driver as out of the 13 cars that I've owned, only 2 have been automatic (and one was given to me). The truth of the matter is that manuals are being phased out for driveability, gas mileage, and performance. Almost all super cars don't have manuals anymore and many econoboxes don't carry them. As much as I hate it, I'm coming to terms with it. Hopefully a manual option does pop up further down the line. We still have a few months before it releases

I wish they will have a model with the s55 engine inside. 330 hp from the b58 is kinda lackluster especially now that 300 hp is standard on almost all cars. Also because it doesnt have a manual the M2 competition definitely is the better choice between the two.

I am just looking forward to the Z4 coupe, the new Supra looks like a fine car, maybe not exactly a Supra, but good car nonetheless. Saw one driving on the interstate in camo the other day and it was very sharp, great proportions, looks almost Lotus-like.
