Transferring a plate from another car

Hi peeps.

My bro in-law has a sorned car which he's scrapping and I want his plate.

I've looked on the DVLA web site and it talks about not having a gap between the tax running out, and the SORN. My Bro was lax in SORNING the car and was on his drive for a week or so untaxed. Will this be an issue?

Also, it says the DVLA will need to inspect the cars?! Do they really need to do that? Seems odd.

If anyone has done this and has any advice it would be appreciated.

Thanks a lot!

Im not 100% on the tax thing.

But easiest thing to do is head down your local DVla place
I've transfered from retention but not car to car

You'll need both v5c, your road tax disc number and see if you can sorn the other car at the same time
