Alternatives to Carly

Have been using the carly app for the last couple of years with no issues.
However they have recently made me upgrade to a newer version and to do any coding a £58 per year subscription fee is required... Anyone know any better alternatives for Android?

ProTools Android App, once you pay for the coding license fee, you will NEVER look back at Carly ever again.

Thats odd, i have carly from prior to when they charged to the subscription model and dont have to pay anything for the latest full version!

+1

Not a cheap investment, but I can't abide subscriptions. Works nicely too.

Does anyone know if any of these apps let you do the coolant bleed procedure through them?

With Carley, if you bought it before the subscription started you just have to download the new version then go into the options and do the migrate to new app option. If it comes up with a message (like it did with me) that you cant migrate, just send an email to Carley explaining that it won't let you migrate and they will then manually add your email address to the migration database. You will then be able to do the migration.

It's not the adapter you need to have bought before the cut off date, it's the app. If you didn't buy the app before a certain date you will not qualify for the free migration for full access.

I know that Carly doesn't. I end up using a laptop with DIS and a cable. Was a nightmare to get working and I forget how each time I use it.

Hi Rasa - have you come across a web site or uTube vid, (I cannot find either), with clear instruction on how to use the Foxwell - it takes me ages to figure certain things out and when I do the next time I come to use the thing I have forgotten ........ it's so bloody complicated

In fact I may just give Carly a go now I have 2 BM's to see if that is any better.

(On the 335D - I found the section to force a ReGen - but I have now lost it again - I have a recorded fault in one glow plug, (not that it is noticeable when driving/starting the car), and apparently the ECU will not instruct a normal ReGen if there is a "faulty" glow plug)

Are you still having the slow crank issue? I've heard a worn earth strap can cause the slow crank issue and charging issue. If your not sure of alternator or battery issue you ideally need a multimeter to check the voltage coming directly out the alternator and if that's pumping out 14 to 14.3v with engine running that's good, then you need to see if the battery reads the same. With the engine off the battery will be between 12v to 12.7v (around that) with 12.6v ish being 90%+ charged 12.3v around 40/50% etc.

slow crank or no crank

maybe this video for a different BMW model will help someone avoid or diagnosis this problem. I'm sure this issue is not limited to the X5
