Exclamation arggg my rotors are stuck on

...c'mon, I know a lot of you have been here before.

I am doin my rear brakes, everything is going good.. i am ready to take the rotors off and... well

... Yes ive seached, consensus seems to be a bigger hammer... that I am not so sure of.. can't it bend the wheel hubs or ruin bearings?

AND i was trying to hammer, but the rear rotors are cover 3/4 of the way around the back by the e-brake... so that only leaves one area to hit the backside of the rotors.. and my caliper is in the way, so that isn't so easy either.

...i did just spray a ton of wd-40 and how that will help a little but still...

I'd rather not just beat the rotor will a hammer, where the hell am i supposed to get a clean hit anyway. I saw the little video by a ford dealer that used the caliper bracket and bolts the "psuh" the rotor off... well my caliper and bracket and OFF my car...

...and yes the hex bolt is out...

And yes, MY E-BRAKE IS OFF

Get a bigger hammer & hit it like a man...It will come off.. Just hit the face of the rotor all around.

Tap the hat of the rotor that faces the wheel pretty hard with the hammer a dozen or 2 times, then do the same thing in a single location of the rotor rotation while you spin the rotor

Hit the frontside or backside of the rotor? And hit the hub straight on?

the rears are covered 3/4 by the e brake so not the easiest to hit from the back. ...I don't want to f up my hub or bearings...

Cover it with some form of a cloth then bang that bitch in a cross pattern. Top, bottom, left, right. Put some force into it. By the time you get back to the top... it should come off with a few more hits.

Hit the rotor hat flat and strong. You want it to ring like a bell :}

Do not try to hammer the disk itself, it is pointless. Aim for the hat, 1 or 2 good shots should just do.

Rotor hat? ...the place on the inner ring where it mounts to the hub? ... And " flat" meaning head on as if I were directly hit in the center or?

....should I hit the front face of the rotor?

Bang on the flat surface, inbetween the lugbolt holes. Do not hit the hubcentric thing that sticks out from the center.

The rotor hat is black on this example:

I just had this happen on my wifes jeep patriot. I was using a rubber mallet like a retard (I actually went full retard doing these brakes at one point) and then it dawned on me to use a regular hammer and by then I was so pissed off with my level of retardation that I maxed out my full retard strength and gave it one good hit on the face which made it come off.

Got them damn things off.

rear brake job complete!! Everything seems to work fine but I hear a slight pulsing rubbing sound... possibly new pads and rotors just being broke in? Stopping fines fine.

I only did the REARS

Good to hear. I ended up buying a 4lb hammer to loosen my rear rotor. More hammer surface area + more weight ended up doing the trick.

You can use rubber mallet ONLY if you hitting you hand with your hand on the rotor!!!

I see OP has already resolved his issue, but for future reference, you could just go to autozone and borrow one of these
http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...er=516519_0_0_

the claw part of the jaw puller hooks right onto the vanes on the rotor, and the middle screw part pushes against the center of the hub, pulling the rotor free.

Mine was pretty stuck on and would not budge despite my attempts at bashing it in. This thing took it right off no problem.

I did get mine off with WD40 and a big hammer...

however, that autozone tool looks awesome.... however, on the website it doesn't say anything about rotors? ... and the only thing i would fear is that is wouldn't "reach" the vanes of the rotors... I have a 328 and my front rotors are decently sized, imagine a 335 or M3... might not reach, but that is a great idea for a tool!!
