MB E coupe vs E92 335i coupe 80-130mph

Earlier in the night I was in the right side turning lane for the feeder road that gets on highway 290 by a light. I just felt like having a little bit of tiny fun and secretly without the knowledge of my wife turned the DSC off and DTC on .

Once the traffic was clear i punched it and the rear slid out tire screeching as the DTC reeled it in as I headed towards the entrance ramp. My wife protested immediately and I slowed down turning DSC back on. As I see in the rear view mirror that a car with its xenon was accelerating hard up the ramp and chasing me. As I slowed down and settle to 80 mph with rpms still a bit high in 4th gear. As I had not come out of the sport manual mode.

This same car I saw in my rear view mirror comes next to me and then flys by as I am slowing down. I notice as it takes off that it is a new MB E coupe. Being the dummy I am I was like no this Benz did not just mess with a Bimmer.

I throw all caution to the wind and give chase. At the starting point of my chase he was already about 5 car length ahead of me and gaining. I did not think it would have been this easy to catch up with him. However, with him being 5 car length's ahead and moving fast I was able to real him in quickly from 80 mph-130 mph to where I was by his rear bumper as we were both @ 130mph according to my speedometer. I was steady pulling on him. I do have a JB4 and I was in map 1 at the time. All the while as I was doing this my wifey was telling me "What r u doing slow down."

Just as I was about to pull along side of his rear bumper to pass him up by making a move to all the way right side lane from middle and take a quick glance at the badge to see if it was 550 or 350 coupe. My wife yelled at me "STOP & SLOW DOWN A TIRE CAN BURST or POLICE CAN GET YOU FOR RACING"......and I did as was told.

As I see the E coupe pull away while I slow down to 75 mph......it almost seemed as if the disappearing taillights of the E coupe were sticking there tongue out at me and my baby (BAD 3)

But this was not the worst..... this stupid Benz E coupe just ruined my night because my wifey was seriously upset with me for the rest of the way. I guess I deserved it for acting like a moron and speeding on public highway.

I know it was wrong to give chase but I do not know why what came over me. Because I so felt like kicking butt of that E coupe. I know what came over me. I am always having to deal with these people that want to race me all the time. I mean for god's sake even a Toyota Prius tried to race me once.

The rest of the way while my wife was not talking to me and upset I felt a bit sad on both fronts for upsetting her and not fully putting that E coupe in its place by letting up and slowing down.

On the other hand what would I do without my wife. As she always talks some sense into my silly self and thankfully kept me from racing on public highways which is dangerous and stupid thing I usually try not to engage in.

Anyways still do not know if it was E350 or E550 coupe because I easily reeled it in at those speeds. I am thinking it must be an E550 why would any E350 owner in their right mind would give chase onto a highway to a car that can easily beat their car.

Anyways just wanted to share my story and adventure tonight....even though I know it was a bit stupid to engage in this type of road racing. I pray to car gods to give me enough sense not to let my emotions and all that twin turbo goodness under my right foot cloud my judgment on my next encounters with wanna be street racers.

So basically E550 vs 335i, which is faster? 382hp/heavy vs ~ 320hp/less heavy stock. E550 does 0-60 in 4.8-5.3 secs...similar to a stock 335i. It would probably have a better top end since weight stops mattering at higher speeds and it becomes a horsepower war.

I always liked how our 335i played in both the S5/E-coupe AND S4/C350 leagues.

Yeah I was thinking along the same lines that stock to stock E92 335i vs E550 would be pretty even match with slight edge to E550 on top end.

I do have a JB4 tune though and was running map1. So I do not think the E550 coupe would have the greater edge in this case. It might be the other way around. Either way I also like the fact that 3er can hang with cars in its own class as well as above it.

With the JB4 I would think you should be able to take him. Even if it was a E550. E550's are pretty fast. My mom has a E550 and even being a sedan, it's seriously quick. They are very nice. I hope she gives it to me when she gets tired of it

The E550 coupe is a nice luxury car. My father has that exact model and i've driven it from time to time to see how it compares to BMW's. It's a good looking car with ample power, but it does not drive like our 335i's whatsoever. It has the most power assisted steering i've ever felt in a car before. You do not feel like you have any connection to the road, just gliding a barge across the highway.

did your show this to your wife so she can be nice to you again? haha I hate that annoying passenger that tells you to slow down and all that. I was messing w/ an E46 M3 once in my G35 and of course he left me, I was doing 110 MPH and my passenger lady friend, grabbed my hand on the shifter and dug her nail into my hand. Yeah that hurt.

One time I was on the Garden State Parkway and there was an E550 following me and passing and I'd pass him, played a bit of friendly leap frog. It became more intense and I'd pass him, he'd pass me and we'd do it faster and faster. When I went to look at the driver I saw 3 kids in the back seat looking at me. As I'd pass him I'd see them looking, 6 eyes right at me. When he'd pass me, I'd see 6 eyes peering out the back glass looking at me. It was cute, till I shut him down and took off. He was quick though.

Fun story, it's nice to give a good chase here and there and have a fun rally w/ a formidable opponent in a responsible manner.

Yeah, I agree because he was accelerating hard through out the up ramp and I was slowing down and settling at 80 mph on the left lane. By the time he passed me on right and I decided to take off from 80 mph. He had already gained 5 car lengths or so on me. However, I easily reeled him in and was next to his rear bumper by the time my speedometer showed 130 mph.

Looking at some of the Dyno results for JB4 map 1. My car is making an extra 50-55hp and 55-60 Ib-ft of torque over stock 335i. So power to weight was in my corner even against E550 coupe.

I think the link is missing for what you wanted me to show to my wife. Anyways the nail digging might have came in if I did not listen to her......lol

I meant to say DSC limited and DTC on. I did not turn the DSC completely off by pressing DTC button for 5 sec.

Well mine does not mind if I play a little bit with DTC on etc. since I recently got my JB4. But she did not like full blown 130 mph chase

My wife rode with me on a local BMW road rally through the Shenandoah Valley in VA. She didn't tell me to slow down....she told me to catch up to the rest of the crowd....

She likes to drive fast because she's a Mainiac from Maine...

I was coming off the Hwy 6 onto 290 going towards beltway 8 and 610.

I think the best part of 290 is after Hwy 6 going towards outlet malls where it expands and traffic is very little.

DTC is always on. You never have DSC on and DTC off. Traction control is a a system that stability control requires in order to function.

If you're referring to the "DTC limited" warning when you hit the button, it's basically warning you that the threshold for slip angle is increased.
