DP with AP

Slops' video clip shows really nice smoothness in the acceleration with the AP. I did notice the SES light on, resulting from his DP.

I have a couple of questions for Cobb regarding DPs and upcoming Stage 2 maps on the N55 -- since I'll definitely want to be able to run Stage 2. First, is a DP definitely required to run the Stage 2 maps? Is the answer the same for RWD and XI cars? The XI has secondary cats in back of the DP, whereas my RWD car has cats only in the DP, and I am reluctant to get an aftermarket DP. (Note: I already have FMIC, chargepipe and drop-in filter on my car). If better exhaust flow is essential, could an aftermarket exhaust be an alternative to a DP, would that help much for a RWD car?

Second, are there any future plans for the AP to eliminate the SES light when running a DP?

Thanks.

Secondary cats on the XI has no affect on your O2 sensors since your sensors are way upstream... those additional two does nothing for the car other than added restriction in the exhausts. So your answer will be the same for xi and rwd cars.

Does it have effect on the loudness of the car with catless dps?

I am not away of any outstanding ROM support. Did you submit your ROM to use via the link here? If your ROM has already been downloaded please upload it to us via the BMW ROM Submission page.

I will be happy to get you going asap. Do you have the "Check for beta firmware" checked under options on AP Manager?

Cheers,
Rob
Picked up my ap about five minutes ago. Unsupported rom. Rob, Neil said he'd get that over to you. Eta? Also, anyone have rom issues and get the link for the update? If so be willing to share your rom number to see if we match? Hopeful that he already has a fix for mine and it just isn't live yet.

You can check for firmware updates by using the AccessPort Manager software. Just hook up the AP to your computer and check for firmware updates. Make sure you check the box regarding Beta versions.

They updated it at Cobb while I was there. I'm assuming the guys checked the beta box? But I'll try it anyways

Just confirmed that with the Beta Firmware checked, it doesn't show that my Rom is supported. So at the moment, there are no firmware updates that are live for my ROM.

Really hoping that Rob sees this because Neil said he could submit my ROM info to him, but he was pretty sure that they are on vacation until after the new year.

I'll try to make a couple better ones later that will probably show a little better without me spinning all fours... In that vid it looks slow, I'm the bottom one. Then you can make more comparisons.. It's kinda cool to see

You know what? I didnt even realize, i thought the cobb stage 1 was on top and stock on bottom. oups. if you could flash to stock and do a run, and do a stage 1 run, I can put together the video for comparison. I also think the stock n55 video i pulled was from a rwd not xi. all things said with rain etc, the stage 1 looks promising...

I have PPK and took a video.. Compared it to a Cobb stage 1 N54 video on YouTube and to 100km/hr they are similar if not identical. This is where it Cobb takes over, by the time my speedo was at 180km(approx 1/4 mole) Cobb was hitting 195km.
When comparing tunes the real difference is 100+ speeds. When comparing speed differences they should be upto 180km/hr and not just past 100 as its difficult to judge.. The difference will be seen past these speeds!!

I have the PPK and the Cobb tune and they are not the same up to 100 km. I have not timed it yet but there is a significantly stronger pull with the Cobb

Jason and Rob: Great to hear about the AP release for the N55, two questions please:

1) What are your thoughts on running the Aggressive mapping with California (and NV/AZ) 91 octane while doing data logging? For those of us living in CA, this will be our first question.

2) Do you believe that the Sport mapping is similar to PPK?

Thank you!

Does the Plano location offer to do the install?

If you can use an ATM you can do the install. It's that easy. It takes about 20min, but that is just waiting to download and save your original map and upload the Cobb replacements. Super easy

ALWAYS data log & confirm that there are no significant timing corrections & that the car is properly hitting the boost targets. Not only octane is equivalent (even 91 from Shell can be different from 91 at Sunoco), so always data log when you wanna run a performance setting just to make sure the car is happy.

Using the forums are more complicated. There's a video on COBB's website on how to install the AP on a BMW (it's for the N54, but the process is the same).

Thank you Benzy, yes I'll definitely datalog if I run the Aggressive map with the CA 91 octane we have here. Since our 91 octane is generally deemed to be the lowest quality (apparently higher ethanol content and detergents) versus most other areas of the country, I'd like to also hear from Rob/Jason about any other thoughts they may have on the subject. The Sport map appears to be only a smaller incremental upgrade to the stock map from a power/torque perspective although per earlier comments on the thread from them say they are also working to improve the tip-in throttle response for us ZF auto tranny people. That'll be a great improvement to the driveability of the car as well.

No problem... Think it's important that all the N55 COBB users remember that these are still Beta Maps, so there are still some hiccups & adjustments that need to be made.

If people are that desperate to run Aggressive Maps, I will say that even here in NJ (running 93 octane), I would see the occasional, concerning timing correction. To eliminate that concern, I'd mix in a gallon or 2 of E85 to bump up the octane & let the tune rune happy
