Pretty insane sell. I was looking to spend 27 on this and it still went for 34.5! Congrats to the seller! 🔥

Whomever bought that is an idiot. But, if all I have to do to make my $10k 335d worth $30k+ is drop the drive train into a 328 wagon, I guess I better start sourcing a body.

lol. Not that you would have reason to know this as you live in the UK, but US vehicle import laws prevent this from happening. Basically, if a car wasn't sold new in the US, it can't be imported until 25 years after its date of manufacture. There are very few exceptions, and a run-of-the-mill long roof BMW ain't one of them.

If somebody in the US has their heart set on an well-built M57-powered e91 with all the right boxes checked, I think $34.5k is a fair price to pay. You couldn't have one built to that level of quality for that price.

Low (low, low) mileage 335d base models are selling for dirt cheap. I guarantee this build could be done for less or similar cost with it being a much better build.

1) It's not an M-Sport, only has the M-Sport bumpers. So it's missing all of the M-Sport interior bits and sides...making the donor wagon nothing more than a "standard" model.
2) Chassis has a ton of miles on it, and although he states it never saw winter in his ownership, it does not mean it hasn't seen winter.
3) Cams, turbos, pump, and tune are all run-of-the mill parts that can be had for a few grand...not to mention, mods don't add value to a car.
4) There's a lot of preventative maintenance that either wasn't done or hasn't been specified.
5) Sedan M-Sports, optioned similarly, with deletes and similar mods can be had for less than $20k and not have a very sketchy title that says the car is gasoline powered...

All I can say is that I'm a happy idiot as my Golf R cross shopping kept landing in a similar financial ballpark but now I get the benefit of rear wheel drive, equally idiotic power, better mileage, and fantastic local support as needed from the folks at TuneMyEuro who helped build the beast

Then do it. If you can guarantee it, then you have a way to mint money. You'd be a fool not to.

What's that got to do with anything? If the buyer wanted an M-Sport 335d sedan, I'm sure he would've bought one. I think what he wanted was...*checks notes*...a wagon.

If you think the buyer is an idiot then I doubt you understand the amount of work that is involved in an elaborate swap like this and executing a well rounded build as a whole. Not to mention you probably don't have the mechanical skills nor the foresight to formulate a budget for a project of this magnitude otherwise you wouldn't have made that comment. Disagree? Prove me wrong.

First off, that wasn’t an msport wagon...

Secondly, it would cost more than $35k to build it. But it would be a lot more fun to build yourself...
