Shredding serpentine belts..

Hey guys. So far this year I've went through 4 belts. Starting to really worry me because not trying to have the next belt go through the front main seal.

Two of the times that the belt shredded, much if the belt was wrapped up around the alternator pulley.

I have replaced the tensioner, both idler pulleys and have changed the oil filter housing gasket because I thought that was leaking on it.

Also the power steering pump has had a few loose bolts, I've tightened those down and still having issues.

At this point I have no idea what to do. All pulleys seem to function properly. None feel loose. When watching the belt while car is running, everything looks good. Just sorta stuck at this point.

Anybody have any suggestions?

Early cars had an issue with the belts hitting the subframe I believe. Check down by the steering pump on the subframe for rubbing marks.

Check the back side of the power steering pulley, that's where it usually breaks/cracks and causes belts to come off/shred.

Whatever you end up finding / doing, install the new plate that covers the the front main seal. Info on it can be found on one of the threads here.

Is it normal for a tensioner to have a slight wobble on it? The past 2 I have bought have both had a slight wobble. The top wheel on the tensioner kinda moves back and forth slightly while spinning. Is it possible that this is the problem? Everything else has been inspected thoroughly and that is the only thing I can find.

It's not normal, but it's common. The tensioner bolt tends to bend/break. Replace it and see if that improves the wobble.

Yeah I did. I replaced my brand new tensioner with another brand new tensioner and it is better.

Check your power steering pump mounting bolts and the power steering pulley mounting bolts.

Check pulleys towards bottom of car for chips or pieces out of them. Some pulleys smack subframe when driving over big bumps. Fix would be new/stiffer/taller motor mounts after replacing broken pulleys

The xi has a different front subframe that doesn't have this issue.
