E90 N52 330i/328i Fuel filter
I have seen on yb how those life time filters look like after 100,000 miles and they are bad dirty. I can only assume it's the same Bmw bs story like the one with life time oil.
But somehow I have literally found no threads anywhere about changing fuel filter on our E9x 328/330i generation. I know there is an assembly unit with fuel regulator and with the fuel filter behind the driver’s seat that needs to be replaced, but have anyone done this job? I find it hard to believe that there is really no reason to change your fuel filter after 12 years and 100,000 miles.

The in-line fuel filter that was fitted to the E46 model range was dropped in the E9X. There is just a strainer in the fuel tank. Hence changing it is not a serviceable item.

I put a new delphi unit in my e91 @ about 130K miles because I misdiagnosed the issue.
the factory pump looked fine. the sock is an absolute filter, so worst case scenario if it's plugged is that the fuel pump will cavitate and die. |

Ok, cant argue with that . So what you guys are telling me is that Bmw Life Time fuel filter actually works and doesnt need a change. Alright then, so i guess its of my list of probable couses for power los. I know its a litle OT but what about timing chain? I know they usually very solid but if it has 100,000 miles on can it stretch enough to affect peak power loss on high rpm? Or is it more like if you can't hear it dont touch it? |

Hi guys, I would like to bring back this thread to life because I got a question that is related to this topic.
So I got E92 330i 2007 200Kw, I recently bought fuel filter, that according to many web sites is compatible with my car. That is the filter: https://catalog.mann-filter.com/EU/e...lter/WK%206030 Today I wanted to know where is the location of it, but I figured out that actually, E92 doesn't have a replacement fuel filter. Even though in the service book of my car, it is marked 2-3 times that the fuel filter has been replaced. So actually I still don't get it, how they will leave these cars without proper fuel filter, then all the dirt is going to kill the HPFP, and obviously, it happens to be a weak point of many 330-335s. Even in the service manual, it is mentioned that these cars got "lifetime fuel filters"... OMG, please tell me is it compatible or "ONLY FOR CHINESE EXPORT" as it is written on the manufacture's website. So in China, the fuel is so bad that even the "lifetime filter" cannot handle it?!? In the end, if this filter is not compatible, I will return it and I will order this Fuel Regulator OEM joke part with the built-in filter Thanks in advance! Best wishes and Merry Christmas |

Filter is integrated into the fuel regulator. The suspicion is the folks who have a failed regulator being that the filter gets clogged and pressure needs to be relieved somewhere (which is usually a small fissure near the top). Still only a "pretty good theory" but you get the idea

Thanks, bluewater328 for your response.
So I will return it to the dealer and buy the Fuel Regulator, as well I will have to look for the Low-Pressure Fuel Pump unit because my 330 is one of these BMW's with a LOW-FUEL problem. I mean when the Low Fuel lamp shows on the dashboard, if you turn off the engine the next day it goes to limp mode - one whole bank of cylinders goes off because of low fuel pressure and that happens only when the car is low on fuel, so fuel regulator and LPFP should fix the problem because my HPFP is new and it is definitely not from it. If you fill-up the tank the car goes smooth... put it close to the limiter .. got perfect fuel pressure but not when the fuel is low in the tank, can't even keep the engine smooth in idle. The car got 120 000 miles on the clock, in the service history no one replaced the regulator and the LPFP. I bought it 2 months ago, yeah someone will say .. my car is 500 000 miles and nothing is replaced, but I have no idea how the previous owners were taking care of it , what fuel they used, did they wait for it to warm up in the winter or stepping to the metal while its engine was cold, etc. |
