The shop I was at is running into the same problem with a customers car who's shooting for 1,000+. Put the engine down, and lifting the heads up.

With the price of these cars and their engines dropping down so fast, it sounds like it's time for a call to ARP and seeing what it would cost to get them to produce something.

I had an 04 GTO before my BMW with a large cam and converter, it was tuned perfectly and I had zero drivability problems when people told me it would never work. Rarely if at all surged, and was a monster at the dragstrip!

Do you know if you can tune these auto's and lock up speeds?
There’s an Android App called xHp flastool that allows you to purchase different tunes and even build your own transmission tune using a very basic Tunerpro definition file. Similar to the Openflash tablet concept, except any Android tablet will work. Most likely you can change lock up speeds thru a custom tune.

I was shocked...well not really shocked cause it's BMW related when I saw how much people were charging for aftermarket "BMW" oil coolers. hahaha
I bought all those parts out of EBay for less than $550.

Ah makes sense now on why ABR has flow data for the N55 lol.

I am literally waiting for your build to complete and post results before I build mine.

Not worth the expense if that is all.

I am wondering how the aftermarket pistons work out. Concerned about the expansion / contraction characteristics versus eutectic. I trust the manufacturer took that into consideration.

My engine is at mmp in texaa right now getting forged je pistons and forged carillo rods

Engineer at mmp said oem the clerance that JE recommend is 0.04 buy that could cause piston slap specially in cold climate like mine. So he will put a custom clearance of 0.03

That way he said itll be perfect and i went forged pistons cause a member blew up a piston oj same setup as me. ( ps2 on meth )

Ill keep you guys updated about pistons

Usually around 15whp on N/A motor and twice that on boosted cars. Will know for sure on the dyno very soon.

Like I mentioned to Bours. The piston to wall clearance is very critical. That’s why the shop should get custom piston on each build.

On a different engine, at a much lower boost, 10-11psi, we've seen the equivalent to 1-2psi gain in power with ported BV heads.
At double the boost level you will be running I would expect to see a power increase of equivalent to 2-3 pounds of boost.

Can't wait for the dyno testing.

A few more pics before the motor goes back in the car.

Stage 3 heads going in. BTW, N55 heads take almost double the time to assemble compared to the N54 due to valvetronic components.
