Valve Cover Sealant?

I tried searching and couldn't find anything.

It seems to me the 06 330 N52 engine use a different valve cover gasket. Mine is not pushed into the valve cover. It is just a red flat gasket that lays over the top of the head instead of being the black one that is pushed in the valve cover. When I removed the gasket, it seemed to me that it was the original, the year on the gasket says 05. I did not see any trace of sealant. Is it necessary? I cleaned the surface and haven't tightened anything yet, still wondering if it needs sealant or not. Let me know guys !!! If someone can check the book or any experience.
