Is your 3 series a commuter car?

As I was driving to work today, it hit me. Am I putting too many km on my car and is the E90 really a decent commuter car? I'm averaging about 120km (70 miles) a day and 90% of that is all highway driving. Keeping steady speeds on the highway, and rarely do I do city driving. Roughly, lets say I'm averaging about 35-40 k a year...

A bit concerned, I want to keep the km low, and of course the maintenance low. Any of you out there in the same position? Any commuters? Are you guys worried about km/miles, commuting, etc on your BMW 3 series?

I would like to know your thoughts...

70 a day is a lot but if its your only ride then you have to drive it. Lets say you got another car just to drive to work, then your E90 would just sit there and you would not drive it enough.

Maybe look into another way of getting to work like the bus and just drive your car to a park and ride ?

The first 5 years of its life it was a garage queen, but now it's a semi-daily driver. I actually want to put as many miles as I can in the next 18 mos., as I have a 7/100 extended warranty. But I don't drive it if I have to travel, I'm not willing to take 55.5 cents/mile i.e. it's not for business use.

My E93 as a commuter car

I drive my 2012 E93 as a commuter car. That is what a BMW is built for. DRIVEN! Love my commuter car. Everyone go and have fun!

My 335 is my daily driver, and I have a short commute to work every day (around 7 miles round trip). I technically have a weekend car, but I do like to take the 335 out for some exercise once a week because I kind of feel bad that it spends most of its time in the garage. I wish I drove it more, actually.

Life's too short to drive a boring car to work. Enjoy your commute

The drive is comfortable, but the "peace of mind is not" haha. Just don't like adding that many km in a day, month, etc. What's everyone averaging about a month?

Mine is not my commuter since parking is hard to come by at my place of employment but I occasionally drive it if it's nice out or I'm running late. Most of the time I use my 92 Accord and leave that at the local Park N Ride. I personally would never leave the BMW there too many careless people rushing to get out their car and catch the light rail. Seen door dings plenty of times myself at least 5+ times during this past year during the morning commute.

I try to make up for it during the weekend by driving her as much as I can and plan on taking a long drive in Sept. back to SF.

Yes! My commute is not too long - 25 minutes, but it's irritating as hell - 21 traffic lights and a freakin railroad crossing. I would hate it if not for the 3 er's.

To me a 328 or 335 is a commuter car. I bought it for a commuter car. Nothing that special.

Highway miles are easy miles, but apparently if you translate to city miles, it's a lot worse.

Of course, city driving puts more stress on the car. So I shouldn't worry? Thoughts?

If you don't have any other cars in your "collection" what else would you use?
