Question Dash cam hardwired?

Ive always wanted to get a dash cam but don't like the idea of having the wire going from the cigarette lighter to the dash cam itself and wanted a more permanent setup...

Has anyone had one installed and got any pics/details etc?

The BMW dash cam I have in my car has been installed so that the front and rear dashcams have no wire hanging anywhere.

Only niggle I have is that unlike certain blackvue dashcams its un viewable via mobile phones etc. You can only view it in the car or on a laptop with a sd card reader. I'll get some pics for you soon.

My Thinkware F770 front/rear are hardwired to the fuse box behind the glovebox.

Can obtain the permanent and ignition lives from the fuse panel itself.
Will get the numbers for the fuses I used.

That would be helpful. I also have the F770 front&rear and I get excessive power drain fault codes - most likely because of the camera running in parking mode. I wondered if I'd plugged the cam into the wrong fuse.

Might well be if you've wired them the wrong way round. Red wire was ignition and yellow direct.

Will check soon, cheers.
I often get the warning: "Shudding down the system due do low baddery"

But maybe I have the voltage cut off point set too high. I'm not worried about the battery as it was only replaced just over a year ago.

I'd have done that already except that I want to use the Parking mode of the thinkware dashcam. I wanted to know which fuse to use.

Maybe the dashcam will always draw too much power when in parking mode and I should just live with the errors.

Here's a pic:

Hope that helps,

Raj.

Thanks for the comments. It seems everyone seems to have hardwired themselves to the fusebox? How easy is it to wire it via the roof lining and pillar trip etc?

Anyone had it done professionally as Im useless with DIY

It's very straight forward to hardware tbh.

To run the wire down the a pillar etc is not an issue. Just need to drop the glovebox and you'll have the access you need.

Guys I hard wired my dash cam into my fuses on my E90, for more information please see the link. I’m hoping the fuses used via your legend would do the same thing (for anyone trying to hard wire any accessory).

Thought about getting a dashcam, but always thought it could be used against you? Does that not worry you guys?

I think there great but, if it is actually a fault of yours...I dunno, I may give in someday to having one.

My other half hardwired mine using the next base hardwired kit. Piggy backed off the 12 volt lighter socket. Seems to work a treat and no wires showing dash cam turns on/off when ignition is on/off.

That's really rather good, I didn't even think to use that housing. Like you say, it looks properly OEM. Good job!
