N55 Preventative Maintenance Timeline
Hi everyone - was hoping to get some insight and actual experiences from those who have done lots of preventative maintenance on their E9x N55’s. I’ve gone thru so many threads of rod bearings and such but haven’t seen one main page covering this.
I recently bought a stock (but with MPPK) 2011 335i 6mt with 83,000 miles and in the first month, had to replace the charge pipe which cracked and in turn, stuck the throttle body open. Below is a list of the previous owner maintenance. 2018, 43k - VCG, OFHG 2019, 52k - Coolant Expansion Tank 2023, 80k - Engine / Cabin filters, spark plugs, ignition coils I currently have the car in Chicago and do my best to always bring it up to temp, but it is experiencing lots of heat cycling. Here’s my main question - I know in the next couple of years, I’ll have to replace the VCG & OFHG once again. With that said, I see so many rod bearing issues around 70-100k. Would you do all 3 at once (as the labor and location is similar) right now, or am I good to wait a couple more years? Obviously opinions vary and there’s no right answer but I’d love any insight you can offer. Thanks! |

I have a 2011 335xi n55 auto and have done nothing to the engine. Aside from mods and repairs, just regular maintenance. Oil changes, trans oil change and new pan, shocks, brakes, etc. No issues with the engine so far and I'm at 140K and do not drive like a grandma.

Good to know. While I’m very nervous, I’ve seen quite literally 10-15 posts of stock bearing spinning. It feels like this is literally a non issue… still might do it though lol |
