Switching from 18s to 19s - will the size cause problems on the e92?
I'm planning on purchasing Alzor 730 wheels which are 19 inch wheels. Currently my e92 335i M-Sport is stock and I am planning on getting these wheels for it. That being said I am worried that the higher size will cause either rubbing or other problems. Should I be worried, or will there be no issues? I am planning on using these on the stock suspension. Also, if there will be no problems using these wheels, can I also install spacers if that is something I wish to do further down the road?
Here is the link for the wheels: http://bit.ly/1KT8u54" rel="ugc" target="_blank">http://<a href="http://bit.ly/1KT8u5...ly/1KT8u54</a> P.S. Sorry for seeing noobish, but I am completely new to all of this and I am learning as I go. |

When you get bigger wheels, you get lower profile tires to match. So the overall diameter of the wheel and tire package stays the same.
If you go with standard wheel sizing with the correct tire sizes, you should have no problems. However, you will notice a harsher ride and will feel more bumps/cracks in the road because there is less tire to absorb the impact.

You should worry that every single road imperfection and pothole will bring you that much closer to a sidewall blowout or rim damage, along with a fairly significant drop in performance potential.
Other than that, keep your eyes peeled for those sort of things on the road... and if you're in it for the looks then go for it! |

About your wheels and spacers...'it depends'!
your wheels have a designed offset distance, and how that offset places the wheel within the wheel well will have a bearing on how much/little you can do with spacers before you created a problem with things hitting! Tire Rack 19" diam x 9" wide wheels listed for M Sport the offsets range between 29mm - 45mm! Your wheels listed nothing. Last edited by Wilt; 06-06-2015 at 02:15 PM.. |

I totally agree with bigger wheels equal harsher rides. But question, what about the //M cars? Their wheels are in the 19s/20s, do they rides really bad compares to their regular series counterpart? Or BMW does something special to make their rides softer?

19s aren't harsh at all. 19 is an optional oem 335 size. 20s I would worry.M3 has a stiffer harsher suspension than 335 too.

I run 19s, with low profile on run flats with a lowered suspension and have absolutely no problems with rubbing or ride quality. You can make the switch over to 19s with confidence and if you don't like em you can always switch back

Why? Only if the wheels and tires weigh a lot more. Wider tread will because there's more friction. Stickier tires will to. But friction = traction. Maybe 1-2 .mpg for wide sticky tires over stock. Weight will too. But 19" non run flats weigh less than 18" run flats. Actually better mpg.

Do you keep a spare tire just in case?? I'm about to make the switch to Michelin PSS and ditch the factory Bridgestones but kind of nervous about not having a spare tire or the space to keep one haha..

None of your roads compares to Greece and I have no issues with 19s, though I do a lot of swerving around to avoid the bigger holes, you do need to do that if you like your rims. Good quality tires makes a huge difference too, the PSS are quite stiff and protective, as well as being the best all-round performance summer tire there is.

No spare for me. Ive had to tow twice in 208,000 miles. Both times because I ran the tires till they wore thru. Still cheaper to tow than spend extra on spare or run flats. I check them more often now lol. I'm considering a donut but not crazy about giving up my trunk. It's an e93 so not much to begin with.
