Electronic screeching from rear speakers!

Last night, I turned off my car (2008 328i, sport & premium pkgs, no iDrive). Forgot something. Got back in and turned it back on and there was a terrible electronic screeching/squealing coming from the back speakers, esp. the back driver's side speaker. I couldn't get it to stop, no matter what I did. I turned on the radio and could hear it through the noise, but it was highly distorted.

The only potential culprit I could think of was that I had my rear view mirrors folded in, and I thought it might be an alarm to prevent you from driving with the mirrors folded up.

I turned the car off, and turned it back on and the squeal was gone. I folded up my mirrors, turned it off, turned it back on to see if the mirrors being folded up caused the squeal and there was no noise, even when I put it in gear, (R and 1).

Any ideas what may have caused this? Was it a fluke thing or should I get it checked out?

FYI,

I had the exact same thing happen to me, went away after I locked the car, and waited ~ 15 min, knock on wood, hasn't been back since, was tempted to ask the BMW service about it when it was in for the Oil change, but decide better not to, they might break something instead.

LMK if you discover anything about this.

Good to know I'm not alone! I'll let you know if it comes back, knock on wood (my walnut dash trim).

Exclamation

This happened to me today. Turned car on and off. Nothing.
Lasted ten minutes.

LOUD.

On the way to the dealer it stopped.

The moment the noise stopped I was making a turn the car spun out.
Almost 360. Dangerous. Lucky empty road. Never happened before.
Maybe coincidence the road was a little wet. WTF ! ?????
