Frontlip for E92 M-Tech front **part 2 - the CAD's**
hey guys!
After the frontlip-fail from Vorsteiner, I talk with the company Mor-Vision (http://www.mor-vision.de about a FULL frontlip for the E92 M-tech kit. Now, we wanna see how many are interested in a FULL lip, which looks like the Revinora lip for the M3. after some mail with the guys, the make some CAD's! they make four different styles. now you can poll which one you like most: Version 1 http://www.mor-vision.de/cad/Mor-Vis...92_einzeln.pdf http://www.mor-vision.de/cad/Mor-Vis..._mitStange.pdf Version 2 http://www.mor-vision.de/cad/Mor-Vis...92_einzeln.pdf http://www.mor-vision.de/cad/Mor-Vis..._mitStange.pdf Version 3 http://www.mor-vision.de/cad/Mor-Vis...92_einzeln.pdf http://www.mor-vision.de/cad/Mor-Vis..._mitStange.pdf Version 4 http://www.mor-vision.de/cad/Mor-Vis...92_einzeln.pdf http://www.mor-vision.de/cad/Mor-Vis..._mitStange.pdf tell me what you think!! you need the Adobe Acrobat Reader to open the links! NOTE: the price would be (no exact price at the moment) for synthetic version: ca. $500-600 for full CF version: ca. $1000-1150 NOTE: the full CF lip is made in a prepeg method. this is a very expensive method but its extrem exact. and it would be 100% Carbon!!!! NO FRP!! the guys from MOR-Vision work full-time in a company, which make prototype- and modelbuilding including for big car manufacturer. so they have a very big know-how and high-tech machines. and this parts are all made in Germany!!! no Taiwan shit! here the first thread: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=338693 Last edited by Robmaster; 01-14-2010 at 06:06 AM.. |

for that aggressive look, #3 and #4.
for the a more subtle look, #1 and #2 but does the lip extent all the way around the lower part of the bumper? it looks kind of cut off under the fog lights? |

it cut off under the fog lights. i think it looks more invisible, specially if you paint the lip. it would look like this on end of the lip: |

This is a great project but please get it right. We have been waiting for sooo long for this. The idea is to keep it from looking added on, right? We all want the piece to look as OEM as possible.
Their piece for the M3 looks good in that regard. It's a matter of personal taste as to whether it should be uniform across the front or have some detail, like the last two models. But, I would take any of them IF the sides looked like the one on the M3. Otherwise, I will still be waiting, I'm afraid.

i know what you mean, but i think that's impossible. the M3 front lines are totally different than the M-Tech front lines. look at the area around the fog lights / side intake: our lip in the CAD's follow the OEM lines. (look at the splitter pic) |

I don't know why it couldn't look more like a splitter under the outermost part of the bumper and then fill in the gap under the fog and radiator grills. There could be a small amount of overlap on the bumper on those outermost parts, as it looks like on the M3 piece, to thicken up that part a bit (make it look a little taller).
Something like this (Note: Done VERY quickly- just now- in MS paint. But, I think you get the idea.)

Here's another feeble attempt. What you could do is extend the center part of the new lip onto the face of the bumper (under the fog area) to help with attachment and then drop it down along the outermost part of the bumper and have it be under the bumper in that area for attachment (kinda like a splitter). Would something like that work? It would look a lot like the M3 piece this way.

i dont think that would looks good on the M-Tech front. on the M3 it looks good because it's flush with the lines of the bumper, but on the M-Tech front it would be against the lines of the bumper.
so i think we would make it on the end like the PP splitters. |

I guess I just have an aversion to a wide piece added to the side of the bumper, like the Vorsteiner lip for the OEM bumper or the 3D and Vorsteiner splitters. I'd rather see it come off the bumper somewhere else, like this: (On the other hand, if you can make it thin enough, like the OEM aero lip, your idea could look good.)

As you can see from this picture, the top line from the air duct sweeps down and toward the back while for the msport bumber it sweeps down and to the front starting all the way up top at the fender line...... The lines on the M allow for the lip to cut off at the end in that design, but in the msport, it would just look unnatural |

perhaps the design of these spliters can be of inspiration.......the ericsson bumber significantly deviates from OEM M Bumper, but they've managed to play with the lines to create a beautiful cutoff for the CF to body color transition

But if done properly, I don't think the piece the way I did it in the last pic (the black car) would look that strange. Maybe I'm crazy but having a 4 or 5 inch tall piece at the wheel well would look more added on to me. The curvature as it drops down helps to detract from the added-on look and if it is graduated enough as it attaches to the bumper, it would be harder to notice. However, if your proposed piece is exactly the same height at the lines of the side skirts and reasonably thin like the OEM aero lip, it could look OK...I guess.
