Would this type of oil work on a E93 N54 335i?
The top off warning came on my 08 335i e93, and I'm wondering if this oil would be the right one to use?

Given your car year, I'm willing to bet your oil cap even says Castrol on it.
It's fine, nothing wrong. BMW now recommends 0W-40, but you'll still catch a few with 5W-30, and there is nothing really wrong with that unless you are under constant freezing temps. That's an overview statement, but you get the idea...esp if you're just topping off. It would be best to get one that's BMW LL01 (longlife) spec, but that's about all. For the record, I usually buy BMW 5W-30/0W-40 oil or Liqui Moly 5W-30 SpecialTec, but it's a luxury rather than a requirement, imho, and more about how long between intervals you can wait. The oil nazis will be here soon, but again...for topping off, you're fine. Last edited by bluewater328; 12-11-2018 at 08:39 PM.. |

Perfectly fine for top-off.
