Sorry Russ wrongly thought you could do with some insight on polarity but, it seems like you know what you are doing.

Perhaps my step by step process will help future readers.

So I can check, the sub connectors connections and wiring.

On yours Sam, you've linked the Blue/White & Red/White, and then the Blue/Brown & Yellow/Brown.

So can you tell me what colours are what on the factory side, in terms of +/- L/R please?

Reason being, if mine have been installed as the picture might suggest, mine will have the following linked:

Blue/White & Blue/Brown
Red/White & Yellow/Brown

Cheers

No, worries, it's all good mate

I am genuinely concerned and confused about how mine seems to be wired up incorrectly, yet sounds (to my completely noobalicious ears!) perfectly good.

Hopefully Sam can shed some light on the OEM wiring colours.

Cool, i'm sure Sam will sort you out, wiring confuses me!

Just out of genuine curiosity, have you EQd anything on the Bit one or left it playing the base stereo signal? If you have EQ'd did you use your ears or a mic?

No, nothing mate.

I just ran through the setup using the audio cd.

All equaliser settings are just flat. I'd like to have a play, but it's finding time to not only do that, but also read the reams of documentation that accompany the software!

I've just read the war and peace slanging match on Sam's [AWbimmer] thread. Perhaps that explains the abruptness here.

Yeah it is very time consuming, but the powerful EQ you have can make the audio better, as like myself you have a base stereo signal. But again, it's just finding the time.

The best software i have found for use with EQing is roomEQ, which is free. All you need is a calibrated mic and some test tones.

To be honest, I'm more concerned I'll end up tweaking something with the software and it'll sound worse than it did before - and then I won't be able to revert back to how it was!

Trust me that has happened a lot of times with me and is part of the process. You can save the standard file somewhere, so you can go back.

Best thing about the dsps are you can change with live music, makes it so damn easier

Is the head unit feed good enough in these cars? Looking at adding some front comps to replace the Alpine ones.

IMO, if you want to keep iDrive and stuff, you have no choice, but the best you are going to get is with a DsP.

Anyway, back to the wiring conundrum started last night. I checked the Rainbow Is CL8.3 speaker kit (specific for the e9x) instructions, and sure enough it shows how the the connectors are to wired up, exactly how mine are.

. It'd be pretty weird if a kit developed specifically to suit the car (like the alpine) had instructions to tell you how to incorrectly wire it up, surely?

I'll definitely find some time to piss about with the software and try change a few settings to see if there is any difference in sound.
