Working out best climate control config for winter

Can anyone help with the best settings/more efficient setting for the climate control?

I find that I get the best heat from the front windscreen demister button, whilst if I select front, feet vents, it produces just cool air which is not what i want on startup.

The Auto button when clicked just whacks my blowers on full and do not appear to slow down.

My understanding is that having air con selected uses more fuel.

Thanks

Air con is unlikely to be doing anything in winter, it's too cold too function

My climate settings stay the same all year round. That's the whole point of it, it manages itself.... 21 degrees in Auto.

My AUTO button toggles through 3 preset fan speeds, doesnt yours ? A graphical representation of this appears when AUTO is pressed.

Aircon is not just for cooling. It works just as well in the winter if not better as it dehumidifies the moisture in the air that causes the interior fogging up.

I use aircon all year round. Switching it off in sept until april will in the long run cause the internal seals to dry out and leak the refridgerant.

Don't use it......... loose it

Stick it in AUTO at 21 degree C and have aircon on..

I keep mine in this all the time and let the car manage it.

On a Toyota Rav I sometimes drive, I'm pretty sure the front screen de-mist air goes thru an electric heater to warm the air onto the screen before the engine heats up (which seems to take an age in a diesel).

Always assumed this is why there is a separate button for screen de-mist. Anyone know if our BMW's do this ?

Another vote from me for a single temp all year round. I often toggle the slider under the centre vents if I'm too hot or cold.

I'm shocked by everyone having them set to 21, I'd find that boiling, about 18 is fine for me.

Same here - set at 21 and tends to stay there although recently I have found 23 with the vent slider set to cold is nice in the mornings - warm round your legs and fresh round your head!

Leave mine set to auto all year round keeps car dry and has little effect on fuel economy as I have tried without. Usual setting is 21 but crank up to 23 for winter.

This is certainly true for the 6cyl BMW dervs. My 330d has an electric heater in the ventilation system for cold start/cold ambient.

Set it to 21ºc then.

You can control how much hot/cold comes from the centre vents towards your face.

At 17ºc I should think it is always over working.

This time of year? 28 in the morning for a good 20 minutes, then down to 25.. Pointed at my feet at all times.

But only 2 notches or so.

Seat heating on too, naturally.

And yes this is an incredibly dull thread... Heh..

But I don't want 21, thats hotter than my house is (although I am a student so the heating is never on). Don't think I've ever had it above 20c even when it was boiling out. 21 would be uncomfortably hot. I always have the heated seat on though.

Discussing climate temps, never thought i'd see that!

On a cold morning i stick it on auto 28C, then down to 20C auto after a while. The rest of the time it is always on 20C. Unless it's a very hot day and then it's at 16C.

Auto most of the time for me, 21 give or take a few. What I find though, is that especially when it's really ferkin cold outside, I dont get any hot air on my feet - it all gets blown at my face.
