Got "busted" debadging my car!

Well, I finally decided that I wanted to debadge my car. I was reading how it could simply be done using a credit card, so I decided to give it a shot during my lunch break being that it was already pretty hot outside. I went out to the employee parking lot and as I was prying away at the “i” the following took place…

Security Guard: HEY! (scares the crap out of me!)
Me: <turns around>
Security Guard: Is that your car?! (still with an angry tone)
Me: <laughing> Yeah, here look… <roll down windows with the FOB>
Security Guard: Oh…why are you doing that?
Me: Well, I just bought this sweet V-TECH badge which looks much nicer! (OK, not really, I told him I was making the rear look cleaner)

After that he just watched me until I finally pried the “i” off and tossed it in my car. Once I finally got the numbers off, I took a few steps back and I must say I’m very pleased with the results, looks much cleaner! Can’t wait to get home and use to goo-gone to get the rest of the residue off…

When I was in undergrad, I had 3 hours gap between two of my classes. During one of these gaps, I finished the install of my alarm in my F150 truck at one of the parking lots. Unlike the BMW alarm which plugs in, I had to find wires, splice, etc. Sitting out in the back of the parking lot, with the alarm blaring, the hood open and a crap load of wires pulled out from under the steering wheel and with me under there, a cop drives by at 5mph. I just waved and smiled--she waved back and didnt even say anything.

I was a little disappointed, to say the least. At least your security guard is actually doing something

so he stuck a guy up, stole his keys to debage his car..

if I was stealing a car, I wouldn't think about pretending to debadge a car hoping nobody would notice. I'd just jump in the car...

actually, my friend's hate badges so much, they pretty much took off my M3 badges putting a gun to my head...

Hey, I have no complaints that he stopped me! I was actually pretty surprised since I thought they just sat around at their desk at the entrance making sure people were wearing their badges.

Yeah..I guess in corporate environments, they actually get up every now and then to do work! We were checking out a friends rims on a new car he had just purchased, and our security pulled up right behind us. It was pretty funny! We just wish we all scattered in every direction to see what he actually would have done.

One think you have to be careful of is debadging...I have a friend that works at an impound lot in maryland. He said they usually initially tow debadged BMW's as rear wheel drives (only rear wheels off the ground), by making an assumption that most BMW's are RWD.

Of course this is only a prob if you have a debadged XI and you park in shaddy areas.

Our security guard is so fond of my car he makes extra trips to the parking lot to make sure it's OK. Thanks, Bud

haha nice story. so you did this with a credit card? hmmm...

edit: after seeing this, i was done with my work so decided hey ill run out to my car.

had a plastic scraper; pulled the letters off. the easiest part was done. using a MF towl and krud kutter(which is safe for paint) it came off in about 5 min.

it's kinda risky doing it without warming up the glue.
