Finisher Rods

Has anyone removed or painted the "finisher rods" on the front bumper. These are the three aluminum finish trim pieces (left, center, right) in front of the lower grid.

I assume they have no purpose other than looks?

push up and pull out. if it get stuck, dont force it. it should pop out easy though.
