Running Michelin PSAS4s on your e9x?

Costco has a good price on installed Michelin Pilot Sport All-season 4s currently. An all season tire makes sense for my climate and budget for my e91 in the Chicago area. Two sets of wheels and tires aren’t in the cards right now. My run flat Pirellis are showing wear on my RWD sports wagon.

But I’d really appreciate any feedback from folks who are running these PSAS4s. What say ye O Wise Ones?

I’ll live on the edge without run flats but likely pick up a space saver spare for long treks.

I run those tires on my e92, dad’s e90, and daughter’s e91. They are quiet and ride very well compared to what those cars came with. I won’t ever go back to RFTs.

My E90 (18" staggered) got a set from Costco last year - works fantastic as DD in a similar climate / single set budget.
My second preference (RFT category) is MXM4 - I run those on E91 (17" square) & F25.

I run PSAS4's on my E90 255/35/18 front 275/35/18 rear and they have been good to me so far, I've got about 10k miles on them.

I had Pilot Sport A/S3+ for about a year and they're an excellent tire. Just as much grip as the Pilot Super Sports I had before in the warm weather according to my butt dyno and a very impressive amount of grip in the cold and rain too. Steering feel was superb. I ultimately took them off in favor of Conti DWS because they were a bit noisy for me. They were very livable until I did solid bushings in the rear so I think you'd be very happy if you don't have those.

A few weeks ago switched over from Bridgestone Turanza runflats to Pilot Sport AS4 on 17 inch rims. The ride is much more comfortable and quieter, but also more bouncy over uneven roads or bumps on the highway. I no longer have any concern with cracking or bending rims when an unsuspecting bump on the highway comes along. Perfect tires for N52's

This just in. Costco is knocking off $150 on any set of 4 installed Bridgestone tires. The Potenza RE980 AS comes in at about $200 less than the Michelin PSAS4s. Anyone running these Bridgestones? Same load ratings too. That discount runs through Nov 20th, 2022.

I've got the RE980AS on my car, they're pretty good tires. Nice firm sidewall for steering feel and ride quality is still good. There's a bit of tread noise on mine now that they're down to ~5/32 tread depth. I think the wet braking of the Michelin AS3+'s was a smidge better so I'd go with the Michelins if the prices were equal, but I wouldn't be disappointed at all if there was a $200 savings for going with the Bridgestones.

Thanks for your note. I went with the RE980AS set as Costco has that $150 discount and the Michelins are backordered with no set delivery time. So far, these Pontenzas are smooth a quiet. Great grip in the wet and we’ll see about the snow soon. I’ll update after I’ve put some miles on them.

Thanks!

The Michelin Pilot All Season 4 is the best AS tire I drove. For an all-season tire, overall handling is not that compromised for regular/daily usage compared to even PS4S in the dry. There's a reason they are the standard tire for the new C8 Corvette.

One thing I'd recommend is to make good use of tire warranty. Keep the purchase invoice, installation invoice, and tire rotation records if you are running a squared setup. The thread warranty that Michelin has on the AS4 is 45,000mi, if the tire wears prematurely for any reason including spirited driving, you can file a warranty claim and get a portion or all of the tire cost towards new tires.

Tire Rack comparison: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests...y.jsp?ttid=280

Bridgestone Potenza RE980AS+ (Ultra High Performance All-Season, 245/40R18 97W)
What We Liked: The crisp steering feels great on the road. It performs well in light snow.
What We'd Improve: It's a noticeable step behind the best in the wet.
Conclusion: It's nicely balanced and capable.

Continental ExtremeContact DWS 06 Plus (Ultra High Performance All-Season, 245/40R18 97Y)
What We Liked: The traction is impressive in the dry and the wet. It's good on the street and in the snow, too.
What We'd Improve: We'd take a little more steering feel, but we're just being picky.
Conclusion: Once again, it's strong all-around.

Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 (Ultra High Performance All-Season, 245/40R18 97Y)
What We Liked: It's nice to drive on the track, particularly in the wet. It leads the category in light snow traction.
What We'd Improve: We would love some additional on-road refinement.
Conclusion: A true all-season performer.
