Inexpensive upgraded shock mounts - Monroe 907984

Good call. I/m actually going to look into it for my SSK install. I'm using ramps in the front, but need some clearance in rear, but I don't want to use ramps jack stands because I live in an apt complex and it draw too much attention if the entire car is off the ground.

In my experience it doesn't matter when you tighten the nuts because there is always a counter hold on the threaded rods to allow you to tighten them properly. My issue is that at specified torque, the bushes are squashed.

It definitely helps to seat the bottom in the lower mount first as it is tough to get it back in with the top secured. I did change my bottom mounts (Lemforder) but for those not replacing them, it should not be necessary to undo the bolts.

I have no doubt that stock mounts would've solved my issue but after a taste of the Monroe mounts, it is hard to go back to mushy foam ones.

These are harder bushings than the soft squishy OEM bushings.

Because the rubber is more sturdy and harder, there is more vehicle noise transmitted through them to the chassis on impact.

I just installed the Monroe mounts and was getting squeaking when rolling over bigger bumps. I reassembled them multiple times and tried lubing everything up with no success.

I went back to the stock mounts for now and the squeaking is gone. Any other tips to try?

If you haven't done so, read thru this thread. I see some people did get some new rattles but didn't come across any squeaks.

Also, did you use the OE cup with or without the large washer supplied in the Monroe kit? I did not. Can't see how that would create a squeak, but, who knows.

I've got this very muffled slight knocking in the back been trying to track down. However it is recent and I've had the Monroe mounts on for 3+ years so likely not related.

I read through the thread and noticed some had reported noises but nothing like I am hearing. It sounds like an unlubed poly bushing.

I am using the stock cup at the bottom and not the supplied washer.

Correct, rear. The only reliable strut mounts available for the front are OEM and they do just fine

Edit: What he said below is true. I was talking about specifically just mounts, no adjustability

Welcome. I just 'upgraded' my stock ones by machining the inner sleeve down by 7mm. Yet to put significant mileage on them, but I'm confident it'll have the desired effect

Did anyone here experience bent shock pistons after using stiffer/stronger upper mounts for a longer time?
Currently I'm using polyurethane bushings (Powerflex) and I had a leaking shock, according to the shop due to a slightly bent piston.

Yes, the shaft. Sorry, my bad. Bushings inside the shock weren't worn either.

Shorten the central sleeve by 6mm or so; preloads the rubber parts more, so firms up the mounts.

Hi guys,

I think I need these as well as the non run-flats are causing a lot of rebound at the rears but the only problem is they are so damn expensive here in the UK?

Cheapest is $40 per set for the Monroe 907984!!

Does anyone know where to get these cheaper in the UK or a alternative brand that is cheaper but same stuff??
